On the 4.7L, forcing the camshafts and crankshaft independently can cause valve-to-piston contact, while damage or magnetization of the camshaft target wheel can create a no-start condition. During NV231/NV242 repair, replacement bearings must remain clear of the case oil-feed holes to avoid starving internal components.
Coverage is the 2000 model year, not a combined 1997-2000 service-manual set. The publication contains 5.2L references in ignition, fuel, cooling, and related systems, but no standalone 5.2L engine-overhaul chapter. AX15 appears in identification and fluid-capacity data, while 44RE appears in the identification codes; neither receives a dedicated teardown chapter. Group 25 explains OBD monitor logic, DTC descriptions, EVAP/PCV hardware, and selected tests, but directs certain DRB scan-tool operations and Leak Detection Pump testing to the separate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures manual.
Support the truck and heavy drivetrain assemblies with rated equipment, isolate the battery for restraint or steering-column repair, and use approved equipment for fuel, cooling-system, and refrigerant service.
