Honda Manual Features & Content Preview
This 1,794-page PDF reproduces Honda's First Edition, December 2008 V6 service manual supplement, Honda Form No. 61TA003, for 2008-2009 Accord models sold in the United States and Canada. It is suited to professional technicians and experienced DIY owners who already work from factory procedures and have the shop equipment, precision measuring tools, and Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) access required for advanced diagnosis and repair.
-
Vehicle coverage: Identifies the CP3 4-door V6 sedan and CS2 2-door V6 coupe, J35Z2 and J35Z3 engines, B97A 5-speed automatic, and 89C7 6-speed manual configurations. The coverage includes US/Canada VIN formats, separate PZEV and non-PZEV engine-number ranges, transmission-number locations, paint codes, labels, lift and support points, and towing information.
-
Engine repair procedures: Documents engine removal and installation, mount replacement, compression and VCM/VTEC rocker-arm tests, valve-clearance adjustment, timing-belt service, and cylinder-head, camshaft, valve, guide, and seat work. The lower-engine material covers crankshaft, piston, connecting-rod, bearing, oil-pump, lubrication, intake, exhaust, and cooling-system inspection or repair.
-
Fuel and emissions diagnosis: Provides HDS-guided DTC and symptom troubleshooting for PGM-FI, electronic throttle, VTEC, VCM, idle control, fuel supply, intake air, catalyst, EGR, PCV, and EVAP systems. Readiness-code setting, CKP pattern learning, idle learning, and ECM/PCM updating or replacement are also covered.
-
6-speed manual drivetrain: Explains clutch hydraulic bleeding, pedal and switch adjustment, self-adjusting clutch replacement, and dual-mass flywheel service. The 89C7 section covers reverse-lockout diagnosis, transmission removal, internal disassembly and reassembly, shaft and synchronizer inspection, and differential backlash and preload adjustment.
-
B97A automatic transmission: Carries repair work from HDS DTC and symptom diagnosis, road, stall-speed, and hydraulic pressure testing through solenoid checks, transaxle removal, valve-body and ATF-pump service, shaft and clutch overhaul, reassembly, and A/T differential inspection.
-
Chassis, HVAC, and body updates: Adds V6-specific power-steering pressure tests, pump overhaul, steering-gearbox removal and installation, alignment data for 18-inch wheels, TPMS information, brake-pedal and booster procedures, and VSA component references. A/C and climate-control diagnosis, compressor and clutch repair, subframe work, power-seat service, and related trim procedures are included.
-
Electrical and restraint systems: Maps starting, ignition, charging, cruise control, engine-mount control, exterior lighting, multiplex control, power and ground distribution, gauges, power seats, defogger, immobilizer, audio, and SRS circuits. Connector locations, self-diagnostics, DTC indexes, component tests, and fault-isolation procedures support the diagrams.
Companion-Manual Scope
This is a V6 supplement, not a standalone Accord service manual. Honda repeatedly directs the user to the separate 2008-2009 Accord Service Manual Base Book, P/N 61TA002, for procedures and data not shown here. The two books are meant to be used together.
The specification section provides standards and service limits for the engine, cooling system, clutch, manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, steering, suspension, brakes, A/C, and electrical systems. Procedure pages add component-specific torque specifications, pressure-test data, clearances, wear limits, fluid specifications, and adjustment values. Maintenance Minder main- and sub-item logic and approved lubricant and fluid references are also present.
Diagnostic References, Tools, and Cautions
Named electrical references include the Starting System Circuit Diagram, Alternator Control Circuit Troubleshooting, Fan Controls Circuit Diagram, A/T Interlock System Circuit Diagram, Climate Control Circuit Diagram, and SRS Circuit Diagram. Special-tool callouts identify the clutch pressure-plate compressor 07AAE-P8EA000/07AAE-P8EA110, 3.5L clutch-compressor adapters 07AAE-P8EA220, clutch alignment shaft 07AAF-P8EA000, and A/T oil-clutch pressure-gauge set 07406-0020400/07406-0020401, among others.
The self-adjusting clutch section warns that omitting its compressor, adapters, alignment shaft, and stop collar can damage the pressure plate; impact tools can permanently damage the dual-mass flywheel. It also flags an automatic-transmission valve-body repair trap: reversing the specified shift-solenoid installation order can damage the hydraulic control system.
Sections marked for SRS involvement require special precautions and tools. Honda states that SRS service should be handled by an authorized Honda dealer and warns against using electrical test equipment on the yellow SRS circuits.
