1988 Yamaha G2-A, G2-E & G9 Golf Cart Service, Owner's & Parts Manual Set (P/N LIT-11626-06-55, LIT-11626-06-56)

Yamaha service, owner/operator, and illustrated parts literature for G2-A and G2-E golf cars and the G9-AG, G9-AH, G9-AJ, G9-EG, G9-EH1, G9-EH2, and G9-EJ configurations. The main service publication is P/N LIT-19616-G9-93. Owner/operator publications are LIT-11626-06-55 for G2-A, LIT-11626-06-56 for G2-E, and LIT-19626-00-56 for G9-A/G9-E; the two G2 manuals are identified as 1st Edition, March 1988.

G2-A uses J38, JA2, and J55 identifiers; G2-E uses J41, JE2, and J56. The covered G9 gasoline models use JG5, while electric models use JG6 or JH7.

Operation, Maintenance, and Storage

The owner/operator material covers the drive selector, accelerator and brake operation, parking brake, fuel and engine-oil levels on gasoline models, tire pressure, and battery condition on electric versions. Periodic tables tie maintenance to rounds, operating hours, and elapsed time.

G2-A schedules include pre-operation checks and 20, 125, 250, 500, and 1,000-round intervals. G2-E adds daily, 5-round/3-hour, 20-round/10-hour, and task-specific 40-round checks before longer service intervals.

G2-A maintenance covers engine oil, valve clearance, air cleaner, spark plug, throttle and choke adjustment, starter-generator belt, drive belt and sheaves, transmission oil, brakes, steering, tires, battery, and accelerator stop-switch operation.

G2-E maintenance addresses its 36-volt traction system, six 6-volt deep-cycle batteries, traction motor, solenoid, controller, wiring, differential, brakes, steering, and wheels. Storage and return-to-service sections address battery and fuel-system care during inactivity.

Fuel work, rotating drive components, starter-generator service, and traction batteries are accompanied by Yamaha's isolation, charging, electrolyte, and handling precautions.

G2-A Engine and Belt-Drive Repair

The G2-A uses a 285 cc four-stroke OHV single-cylinder gasoline engine. Its repair chapters cover cylinder head and valve service, valve-seat work, camshaft inspection, piston and connecting-rod work, crankshaft and balancer inspection, and engine assembly.

Carburetor repair and fuel-pump overhaul have dedicated procedures. Specification tables provide fluid capacities, spark-plug settings, starter-generator belt deflection, wear limits, clearances, and tightening torques.

Powertrain coverage includes primary and secondary sheaves, the V-belt, governor, transmission removal and internal repair, differential components, and the shift mechanism.

Transmission Ratios and G9-E Rear-Axle Changes

The G2-A helical-gear differential uses 13.65:1 forward and 15.25:1 reverse secondary reduction, with 800 cc of SAE 90 gear oil. G2-E GE-motor versions use 11.969:1 reduction; Hitachi-motor versions use 13.546:1, both with 800 cc.

The later G9-E transmission specification is 11.965:1 with 300 cc of SAE 90 gear oil. The update applies to JH7-100311 through JH7-100410 and JH7-101111 and later.

Bulletin G92-009 identifies the Dana one-piece-case rear axle/transmission and states that its parts are not interchangeable with the earlier split-case assembly. Matching the serial range and case design helps prevent ordering parts for the wrong rear axle.

Brake Variants, Steering, and Suspension

Chassis procedures cover front and rear wheels, rear axle, brakes, steering, steering knuckles, front suspension, rear suspension, and control cables. G9 sections add cable routing, body and control adjustments, and wheel-alignment specifications.

Bulletin G92-003 distinguishes earlier two-spring brakes from the later three-spring Bendix design. The brake parts are not interchangeable; spring layout and backing-plate identification provide additional checks when selecting replacement components.

Gasoline and Electric Fault Diagnosis

Electrical chapters provide starting/charging and ignition diagnosis for the G2-A and traction-motor, controller, solenoid, charging-receptacle, and signal-system diagnosis for the G2-E.

G9-E material documents an FET chopper motor controller. The JH7 supplement adds PWM control, a throttle sensor, slow-start operation, current limiting, and protective circuits, together with a 36-volt GE traction motor rated at 2.2 kW / 2.97 hp for 30 minutes.
