Cam Timing, Fork, and Shock Limits

Yamaha warns against turning the crankshaft during camshaft installation because damage or incorrect valve timing can result, and the camshaft caps must be tightened evenly to protect the head, caps, and camshafts. The piston-rod fork is especially sensitive to contamination, and its air chamber must be fully relieved before fork or base-valve removal.

The rear shock section covers removal, external inspection, spring and bearing service, installation, and adjustment. It does not authorize internal disassembly of the nitrogen-charged cylinder or reservoir; Yamaha directs damaged or worn shock disposal to a dealer.
