Serial Breaks That Change the Job

The SN 801200 change is more than a line in the specification tables. On the 510D it changes the listed engine application from 4045T/4045D to 4045T, and on both models it tracks alternator, transmission/torque-converter, tire and travel data. Repair chapters also change front axle pivot hardware, counterweights, heater/blower motors, hydraulic-reservoir arrangements, priority/loader-valve layout, and swing-cylinder details at this break.

Other splits matter when ordering parts or selecting a procedure. The manual separates Gresen backhoe control valves through SN -796033 from Husco valves at SN 796034-. Extendible-dipperstick construction changes at SN 787385, while extension-cylinder procedures change at SN 787396. These differences affect relief-valve layout, seals, support pads, bearing strips, bushings, linkage adjustment, and cylinder construction.

What the Repair Volume Covers

The chapters are built around component repair, not maintenance intervals. Axle and transaxle sections take assemblies through removal and installation, disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and adjustment of bearing preload, backlash, end play, and rolling drag. The procedures flag a few easy ways to damage parts. Front axle pivot hardware and shimming change at SN 801200, so mixing early and late parts can leave the axle bound or with excessive movement. Pushing the torque converter too far into the reverser housing can damage the input-shaft seal. The hydraulic-pump stroke-control housing must retain a shim at each cap screw; omitting the shims or overtightening the housing can damage it.

Safety note: Support raised loader and backhoe structures and the machine frame with approved stands, relieve hydraulic pressure before opening lines, and use rated lifting equipment for axles, transmission, cab, or ROPS work. The park-brake actuator contains a spring under load and must not be treated as an ordinary serviceable canister.
