Toyota Manual Features & Content Preview
- 12 PDFs totaling 3,782 pages collect Toyota factory publications for Land Cruiser engine repair, manual and automatic drivetrains, chassis and body systems, scheduled maintenance, electrical wiring, and FJ62 parts identification.
- Gasoline-engine material includes two 2F editions plus 3F and 3F-E coverage, with tune-up and troubleshooting, cylinder-head and block repair, timing-gear and camshaft work, carburetor or EFI diagnosis, cooling and lubrication service, ignition, starting, and charging systems.
- Diesel-engine procedures span B, 3B, 11B, 13B, 13B-T, 2H, and 12H-T engines, including diesel diagnosis, preheating and EDIC systems, injection nozzles and pumps, turbocharger testing, internal overhaul, and electrical-system checks.
- Drivetrain repair covers H41, H42, H50, and H55F gearboxes and transfers, A440F on-vehicle testing and removal, and A440F/A440L bench work on clutch and brake packs, planetary assemblies, oil pump, governor, valve body, and reassembly.
- Chassis and body sections address clutch bleeding, propeller shafts, free-wheel hubs, steering knuckles, semi-floating and full-floating axles, conventional and limited-slip differentials, suspension, steering, brakes and LSPV, frame dimensions, body hardware, mechanical and electric winches, and air conditioning.
- Diagnostic and illustration support includes 3F-E TCCS diagnostic codes and volt/ohmmeter charts, the A440F hydraulic circuit, 2F lubrication and cooling circuits, an air-conditioning system circuit, exploded assembly views, and 1981 and 1985 production-vehicle wiring diagrams.
This set centers on Land Cruiser FJ, BJ, and HJ applications across selected 40-, 60-, and 70-series vehicles. It is best suited to experienced mechanics with normal shop measuring equipment; the diesel manual specifically notes that injection-pump repair requires considerable skill and a special test bench.
Model and Publication Coverage
Coverage is tied to the individual publication. The Aug. 1980 chassis/body manual, Pub. No. 36044E, lists FJ40/43/45/60, BJ40/42/43/45/46/60, and HJ47/60. The later Heavy-Duty chassis/body manual, Pub. No. 36262E, is marked for production dates 10/84 through 1/90 and lists FJ62/70/73/75, BJ60/70/73/75, and HJ60/75.
The 3F manual applies to FJ62/70/73/75, the 3F-E supplement to FJ62, and the 2H/12H-T book to HJ60/61/75. The 1986 U.S./Canada maintenance manual separates 2F-powered FJ models for the U.S. from 3B- and 2H-powered BJ/HJ models for Canada. The FJ62 parts catalog identifies 3F-E station-wagon variants FJ62LV-PNEA and FJ62LG-PNEA/PNEK for U.S. and Canadian production from Aug. 1987 through Jan. 1990.
Repair and Diagnostic Depth
The engine books carry repair from tune-up and compression testing through cylinder-head and short-block overhaul. Inspection data cover valves and guides, timing gears and camshafts, pistons and rods, cylinder bores, crankshaft bearings, oil and cooling systems, starters, and alternators.
Gasoline fuel sections distinguish destination-specific 2F carburetor circuits from 3F-E TCCS checks for fuel pressure, injectors, air-flow meter, throttle body, ISC, sensors, relays, ECU, fail-safe operation, and diagnostic codes. Diesel material adds nozzle testing, injection timing and pump service, glow-plug or intake-heater diagnosis, EDIC controls, and 12H-T/13B-T turbocharger fault isolation.
The chassis manuals supply A440F ATF checks, adjustments, stall, time-lag, line-pressure and road tests, plus removal and installation. Pub. No. 36264E continues with A440F/A440L bench disassembly and repair of the overdrive unit, clutch and brake assemblies, planetary gearsets, governor, oil pump, and three-part valve body.
Manual-transmission material covers H41/H42/H50/H55F shafts, gears, synchronizers, shift assemblies, remote controls, and transfer cases, with inspection, preload, clearance, and road-test data.
Specifications, Tools, and Repair Cautions
Specifications are organized by assembly and include torque tables, capacities and lubricants, wear limits, journal and bore measurements, backlash and bearing preload, clutch and brake adjustments, pressure tests, timing data, and electrical checks. Toyota SST/SSM lists provide tool numbers and applications, including the 09350-36010 automatic-transmission tool set and fixtures for engine, carburetor, axle, steering, clutch, and brake work.
During automatic-transmission installation, incorrect torque-converter handling can damage the oil seal; during power-steering assembly, turning the cross-shaft at the wrong stage can damage an O-ring. The 2F carburetor section also warns that cleaning calibrated jets with wire or a drill can enlarge their openings and cause excessive fuel consumption.
Work on brakes, winches, lifting points, electrical systems, and R-12 air conditioning requires appropriate shop equipment and the system-specific safety precautions in these manuals.

The 3F-E book is a supplement containing the points that differ from the base 3F manual; the required 3F manual is included in this set. The 444-page FJ62 file is a parts catalog rather than a repair manual. Toyota's separately referenced 2F emissions publications, Pub. Nos. 98117/36043E, and the 3F-E Emission Control Repair Manual, Pub. No. ERM045E, are not included.
