The engine chapter is written for bench repair, not just routine maintenance. It covers cylinder-liner fit and projection, crankshaft and bearing inspection, piston/connecting-rod assembly, and cylinder-head and valve-guide work. Separate procedures handle hydraulic head testing, cam timing, belt installation, and final assembly checks. Lubrication pages show the delivery and scavenge circuits, dual-pump layout, oil tank, and crankcase-vapor recovery. The cooling chapter covers the pump, thermostat, and circuit routing. Its scope is internal engine build and system service; there is no standalone vehicle-level engine-removal chapter.

The standard transaxle material goes into synchronizers, the oil pump and pulse sensor, shaft runout, gear end float, axle shafts, pinion position, differential-bearing preload, and external controls. Longitudinal and plan section views support the overhaul work. The F1 post-replacement matrix states when Ferrari Tester procedures are required for clutch and shift-circuit bleeding, actuator centering, self-learning, market customization, PIS/IO calibration, and the new closed-clutch value. Diagnosis is grouped around TCU and sensor supply, hydraulic power, starting authorization, clutch actuation, and gear engagement.

Spider coverage goes well beyond top operation. It includes the hydraulic pump, primary and secondary cylinders, compensation and solenoid valves, hoses, oil-level checks, filling and bleeding, piston synchronization, and emergency operation. The airbag pages cover SD-1 checks, ECU and module replacement, harness limits, post-installation verification, and age-related module replacement guidance. HVAC material follows the Borletti heater/evaporator assembly and Diavia electronic controller through the R134a circuit, pressure-switch and condenser-fan control, compressor clutch/pulley service, sensors, actuators, and functional test charts.

Named illustrations include the Motronic M2.7 system layout, F1 gearbox hydraulic scheme, variable-setting suspension adjustment system, Teves ABS MK II braking system, soft-top opening/closing wiring diagram, and cooling circuit and A/C system wiring diagram. The clutch chapter says not to separate the Voith flywheel from its damper because the assembly is balanced as a unit; disturbing it can create a balance problem. The F1 section treats contamination from damaged hydraulic lines as a system-level risk because debris can damage the Power Unit and actuator and may force the lines and both units to be replaced together.

This set is strongest for powertrain, suspension, brakes, Spider top, HVAC, airbag/SRS, and electrical repair. It is not a body-collision manual and does not contain a standalone steering-rack overhaul section. Brake, F1, soft-top, A/C, airbag, engine, and transaxle work involves stored pressure, refrigerant, pyrotechnic devices, and heavy components; follow the manual’s isolation, depressurization, lifting, and bleeding precautions.
