Factory Repair Coverage
The 1999 base manual goes well beyond scheduled maintenance. Its engine chapter tracks major repair work from engine removal through top-end disassembly, valve and seat inspection, piston and ring checks, hydraulic clutch service, lubrication-system work, crankcase assembly, bearing selection, and transmission setup. Job-order charts sit beside exploded views, while replacement and lubrication symbols identify one-time parts and assembly points.
Routine service sections document valve-clearance adjustment, carburetor synchronization, ignition-timing and compression checks, engine-oil pressure testing, clutch and brake bleeding, drive-chain alignment, steering-head adjustment, suspension setup, battery service, and headlight aiming. The separate troubleshooting chapter covers starting and idle faults, poor medium- and high-speed running, shifting and clutch complaints, overheating, weak braking, fork problems, unstable handling, and lighting or signaling failures.
Model-Specific Updates and Scope
The XJR1300SP '99 supplement is narrowly focused: it identifies 5EA5 and 5EA6 regional builds and supplies the revised rear-suspension specifications. It relies on the 5EA3-AE1 base manual for repair procedures.
The 2002 P supplement is also designed to be used with 5EA3-AE1. It identifies the EUR, German, and Australian model-code pairs; updates engine, chassis, electrical, maintenance, torque, and cable-routing data; and documents the BSR37 carburetors, air-induction system, revised front master-cylinder and rear-caliper arrangements, and carburetor-heating circuit. Scope note: the included material does not provide model-by-model repair coverage for every XJR1300 from 1995 through 2006; verify the motorcycle against the listed model codes.
Diagrams, Tools, and Repair Cautions
Useful visual references include engine-lubrication flow diagrams, harness and hose routing views, ignition and electric-starting circuit diagrams, the tachometer self-diagnosis display sequence, air-induction flow/no-flow views, and complete 1999 and 2002 EUR/AUS wiring diagrams. The self-diagnosis section is specifically limited to the throttle-position-sensor and ignition circuits.

The cautions are component-specific. Turning the crankshaft during camshaft installation can disturb valve timing and cause damage; crankshaft-journal and connecting-rod big-end bearings must remain in their selected positions or the specified oil clearances can be lost. Brake, hydraulic-clutch, fuel-system, battery, and internal-engine work can leave the motorcycle unsafe when required procedures or final checks are missed, so work beyond the user's training or equipment should be referred to a qualified technician.
