Audi Manual Features & Content Preview
- Centers on the Audi A3 three-door hatchback and five-door Sportback built from June 2003 through March 2008, with 1.6- and 2.0-liter gasoline engines and 1.9- and 2.0-liter diesels. The main manual excludes 1.4-, 1.8-, and 3.2-liter gasoline models, S tronic/DSG, quattro, S3, Cabriolet, and the revised range introduced in April 2008.
- Covers routine service, timing-belt and timing-chain work, cylinder-head and camshaft repair, oil-pump and balance-shaft service, engine/transmission removal, and engine disassembly, inspection, and reassembly.
- Documents clutch and transmission work for 0AF and 02Q manual gearboxes and the 09G automatic, along with driveshafts, brakes and ABS, steering, suspension, heating and air conditioning, body fittings, airbags, and body electrical systems.
- Adds a 312-page 2006 Audi A4 BPG/BWT 2.0-liter turbo engine mechanical PDF with lock-carrier-off engine removal, valvetrain and timing service, lubrication and cooling work, turbocharger and charge-air components, and exhaust repair procedures.
- Includes a 452-page 2006 Audi A4 BKH 3.2-liter V6 engine mechanical PDF covering manual- and 09L automatic-transmission removal configurations, timing-chain drives, cylinder heads, crankshaft and pistons, lubrication, cooling, and exhaust service.
- Provides a 2009-2010 A3/A4 service supplement, an Audi A3 AXX/BPY/BWA direct-injection excerpt, an Audi DTC-to-P-code table, 12 A3 wiring diagrams, specification tables, and more than 1,400 numbered engine and chassis figures.
Coverage and document makeup
This 1,278-page PDF set combines six separate references: a 381-page Haynes Audi A3 Owners Workshop Manual, a 72-page 2009-2010 A3/A4 service supplement, the 312-page BPG/BWT and 452-page BKH engine files, a 19-page Audi A3 direct-injection and ignition excerpt, and a 42-page Audi diagnostic-code table. It is suited to experienced DIY owners and professional technicians: the Haynes manual grades jobs from novice through expert, while the engine-specific files call for advanced repair experience, secure lifting equipment, diagnostic equipment, and factory-style VAG/VAS tools.
The Haynes volume is the core A3 repair manual. Its gasoline coverage is divided into 1.6-liter SOHC, 1.6-liter FSI, 2.0-liter FSI, and 2.0-liter TFSI chapters; diesel coverage includes 1.9-liter and 2.0-liter unit-injector engines in 8- and 16-valve configurations. Engine-code tables identify BGU/BSE/BSF, BAG/BLF/BLP, AXW/BHD/BLR/BLX/BLY/BMB/BVY/BVZ, AXX/BPY/BWA/CAWB/CBFA/CCTA, BKC/BLS/BXE, BMM/BRA, and AZV/BKD/BKQ/BMN/BUY applications.
Repair and diagnostic depth
The A3 chapters move from maintenance and roadside checks into in-car engine repair, full engine/transmission removal, cylinder-head dismantling, crankshaft and bearing inspection, piston and connecting-rod work, and final overhaul checks. Chassis coverage includes clutch bleeding and component replacement, transmission removal and linkage adjustment, CV-joint and gaiter service, brake hydraulic bleeding and caliper overhaul, wheel bearings, MacPherson front suspension, multilink rear suspension, and electro-mechanical steering. Body and electrical sections address doors, regulators, trim, bumpers, the instrument panel, airbag components, wipers, lighting, central locking, parking aids, and fault tracing.
The 2009-2010 supplement adds selected A3 and A4 procedures for brakes, drivetrain, cooling, engine electrical and mechanical systems, fuel injection, HVAC, steering, and suspension. It is a concise supplement rather than a complete 2009-2010 workshop manual. Likewise, the two large BPG/BWT and BKH engine PDFs are expressly labeled 2006 Audi A4, so their procedures should not be treated as blanket Audi A3 coverage.
Engine-specific tools, views, and repair cautions
The BPG/BWT file calls out equipment such as the VAS 6095 engine and transmission holder, T40039 ignition-coil puller, T10115 locking pin, VAS 5161 valve-cotter service device, and VAS 6213 hand vacuum pump. The BKH section adds the VAS 6131 scissor-lift table and T40069/T40070 crankshaft and camshaft timing fixtures. Representative illustrations include the starting/charging and ignition-switch schematic, exterior-lighting circuits, wash/wipe and heated-rear-window circuits, the BPG/BWT turbocharger component overview, the balance-shaft module with oil pump, and the BKH camshaft timing-chain overview.
The BPG/BWT repair pages warn that using an impact tool during dual-mass-flywheel bolt removal can damage the flywheel. They also identify a coolant-hose coupling trap: engaging the retaining clip before assembly can damage the connector seal and create a leak.
The 19-page Audi workshop excerpt is labeled Audi A3 2004 onward, Edition 11.2005, for AXX, BPY, and BWA direct petrol injection and ignition systems. It contains pressure-safety and cleanliness rules, component-location views, and intake-manifold and fuel-rail exploded views; the PDF ends after the fuel-rail view, so later procedures listed in its contents are not included. The DTC file is a code-description cross-reference, not a fault-isolation manual. Its 42 pages map Audi numeric DTCs to SAE P-codes from P0010 through P1866.
The direct-injection excerpt warns that opening the driver's door can prime the fuel pump. Work involving pressurized fuel, airbags, brake hydraulics, refrigerant systems, or engine removal must follow the manual's isolation, pressure-relief, and support precautions.
