This Yamaha SRX series service manual covers the 1998–1999 SRX600/SRX600S, SRX700/SRX700S and MSRX700P snowmobiles. Yamaha publication LIT-12618-01-95, first edition, July 1997.

Engine and Power-Valve Repair

Periodic maintenance tables cover preseason and in-service checks. Engine overhaul measurements distinguish the 598 cc SRX600 engines from the 696 cc SRX700/MSRX700P engines. Inspection sections cover cylinder wear, piston-to-cylinder and piston-ring clearances, crankshaft runout and bearing condition, supported by exploded assembly views and torque tables.

Yamaha Power Valve System (Y.P.V.S.) coverage includes cable installation, valve cleaning and mechanical inspection. The pre-season troubleshooting chart helps distinguish carbon-stuck valves from a suspected servo-motor fault before the servo motor is replaced.

Clutch Setup and Drivetrain Service

Clutch setting charts separate the three model groups and operating elevations up to 10,000 feet, including weight/rivet combinations, primary springs, roller sizes and secondary-spring preload. Gear ratio charts match sprocket combinations to chain link counts; the MSRX700P has its own production clutch setup.

Primary-sheave repair uses the listed clutch spider separator (YS-28890-B) and adapter (YS-34480). Yamaha flags the spider's left-hand thread and warns that poor support during removal or tightening can crack the sheaves or spider.

Carburetion and Cooling

Model-specific jetting tables distinguish carburetor identification marks and individual cylinder jetting, with temperature/elevation settings and notes for oxygenated fuels. The Main Jet Selection Chart links spark-plug appearance to mixture problems.

The carburetion section warns that running without the intake silencer can cause a lean mixture and severe engine damage.

Cooling coverage includes the carburetor heating circuit and outlet water jacket joint, plus filler-cap pressure and thermostat tests. Capacity data distinguishes the 5.6-liter SRX systems from the 5.9-liter MSRX700P system.

Suspension Variants and Brake Service

Separate slide rail suspension illustrations cover the MSRX700P and SRX models. The S variants have front damping-force adjustment data, while the MSRX700P has different track, suspension and preload specifications.

Caliper-type disc brake coverage extends to piston/seal inspection, master-cylinder repair and parking-brake service. Follow the manual's precautions for spring-loaded clutches, pressurized shock absorbers and work around a raised track.

Electrical Fault Tracing

The electrical chapter pairs fault-finding charts with component resistance and continuity tests. Ignition, signal, grip/thumb warmer and Y.P.V.S. circuits are covered; the Fault Location Table identifies water-temperature indicator flash patterns for overheating, temperature-sensor circuit faults and servo-motor circuit faults.
