The engine information separates the standard 6P6 build from the California-specification 6AB build. The 6AB sections document its catalyst-equipped exhaust, high-rise cooling-water outlet hose, exhaust-temperature monitoring, revised sensor and hose layouts, and separate ECM identification. Yamaha identifies the 6P6 and 6AB ECMs as non-interchangeable, which matters when diagnosing faults or ordering electrical parts.

Disconnect the battery, ventilate the engine compartment, and relieve fuel-system pressure before working around electrical components or gasoline lines. Use marine-service precautions around rotating machinery, ignition-voltage testing, hot exhaust parts, and pressurized fuel.
