The workshop manual is likewise written for skilled technicians and tells owners to limit their work to non-safety-critical repairs within their training; steering, brake, suspension, and SRS repairs are assigned to a Range Rover dealer.
Model and Configuration Detail
LRL0326ENG is marked for the New Range Rover from its 1995 introduction and contains separate procedures for up-to-97MY, 97MY-on, 1998MY, up-to/from-99MY, and from-2000MY configurations. V8 engine management is divided between Lucas GEMS 8.2 and Bosch Motronic M5.2.1, while the diesel material distinguishes EGR and non-EGR builds. It also separates pre-Advanced EVAPS, Advanced EVAPS, and LEV emissions equipment; single-point and distributed SRS; and NAS/non-NAS market configurations. The ETM adds VIN-specific changes, including the ignition-key interlock from VIN 370859 and the HEVAC ambient sensor split at VIN 381430/381431.
Repair and Diagnostic Depth
The BMW diesel chapter reaches into camshaft, valve and tappet, oil-pump overhaul, piston and connecting-rod, crankshaft and main-bearing, and timing-chain repairs. The V8 chapter covers engine removal, head gaskets, rocker-shaft overhaul, front-cover and oil-pump work, and from-99MY timing-chain service. ZF automatic-transmission coverage extends to the valve body, pressure regulator, pump, solenoids, intermediate plate, parking pawl, and seals. The R380 section is narrower, covering transmission removal and installation, the output-shaft seal, selector remote housing, and coolers rather than a full internal overhaul.

Starting/charging, cruise-control, and radio sections add system-diagnosis flow charts; the starter tests distinguish a no-click condition from a solenoid-click/no-crank fault and a persistent charge-warning indication.

Important Electrical Scope
LRL0086ENG is a diagnostic manual; it expressly excludes electrical component and harness removal, installation, and overhaul, which are handled in the workshop manual. The 1999 workshop manual identifies later companion publications LRL0329 and YVB101590 (2nd Edition), neither of which is included here. The included LRL0086ENG therefore should not be treated as complete MY99/2000 wiring coverage. Its title page also lists a Z9 Index, but the PDF ends with Z8 Harness Routing and contains no Z9 pages.
In the BMW diesel camshaft procedure, the manual warns that expanded tappets can permit piston-to-valve contact if timing movement is mishandled. The automatic-transmission installation procedure warns that an unretained torque converter or failure to seat the transmission on both locating dowels can cause damage. Pressurized EAS and brake hydraulics, SRS components, fuel systems, and refrigerant work require the isolation, depressurization, and safety practices specified in the manual.
