6BU Engine Repair and Lubrication

Cylinder-head coverage extends to valve-guide replacement, valve-seat refacing, and a valve pad selection table. Crankshaft and connecting-rod bearing selection uses size markings and color codes, alongside oil-clearance checks and wear limits.

Torque tables distinguish cylinder-head bolts from nuts requiring angle tightening. Fluid-capacity data separates total engine-oil capacity from routine oil changes with or without filter replacement.

Dry-sump lubrication coverage includes the oil separator, strainer, tank, cooler, and oil-pump checks. The oil-pump assembly is not intended for internal disassembly.

Fuel Injection and Cooling Checks

Fuel-system repair sections identify the test equipment, including fuel-pressure gauge adapter YW-06842/90890-06842. The fuel-pump module, throttle body, and APS assembly are treated as non-disassemblable units.

Injector installation notes explain how O-rings can twist and break, causing fuel leaks. The Lubrication system and Cooling system diagrams trace oil and cooling-water flow, while the oil-tank water-passage test checks for leakage at the cooler-cover gaskets.

Jet Pump, Intermediate Housing, and Deck

Electrical Controls and YDIS Diagnosis

Electrical tables provide battery requirements, stator-coil peak voltages, and sensor voltage and resistance specifications. Checks cover the throttle position sensor (TPS), accelerator position sensor (APS), cam position sensor, and slant detection switch.

The 6BU component layout shows the relocated ECM and rectifier regulator. Yamaha also identifies market-specific ECM versions and warns that these units are not interchangeable.

Off-throttle steering (OTS) and electronic throttle valve (ETV) control are explained. Yamaha Security System, L-MODE, and remote-transmitter registration coverage applies to Cruiser and Deluxe.

The Diagnostic code and checking step tables connect faults to component and wiring tests; the ECM record data graph supports investigation of recorded throttle-control faults. These references help narrow down limited-engine-speed complaints before selecting parts for replacement.

The multifunction meter displays only one diagnostic code at a time, and Yamaha recommends YDIS for ETV troubleshooting. These procedures require the diagnostic software and communication cable; the manual specifies YDIS kit 60V-85300-04 and software versions 1.30/1.32.

Model-specific ECM circuit diagrams and the ECM coupler layout distinguish Sport wiring from Cruiser/Deluxe circuits and identify connector terminals and lead colors.
