Polaris factory service manual P/N 9924084 (© 2012) covers the 2011–2013 RANGER DIESEL and 2012–2013 RANGER DIESEL CREW, including maintenance, chassis repair, drivetrain service, and electrical troubleshooting.

• Engine and cooling: Engine/transmission assembly removal and installation, oil pressure testing, radiator removal, cooling-system pressure testing, and bleeding.

Engine, Cooling, and Fuel-System Coverage

Cooling procedures distinguish the 2011 radiator arrangement from the 2012–2013 layout. Fuel delivery coverage follows the low-pressure circuit through the electric transfer pump and filter/water separator to the Yanmar MC fuel injection pump.

Engine and injection limits: Internal Yanmar engine repair and detailed compression-test procedures are assigned to Chapter 11, which is not included in this PDF. High-pressure injection work is also referred there, and the injection unit requires service by an authorized fuel-injection repair facility.

PVT Clutches and Internal Transmission Work

Separate drive-clutch procedures cover the 2011 and 2012–2013 designs, including the later non-braking needle bearing and thrust-washer arrangement. Clutch offset checks and the hard-shifting troubleshooting checklist help distinguish clutch drag or linkage trouble from internal transmission faults.

Tool references include clutch holding fixture 2871358-B and compensator shim kit 2204264. Transmission assembly coverage includes shift-shaft timing marks, silent-chain installation, and preload adjustment.

The drive-clutch inspection notes warn that spring shims can cause coil bind and clutch-cover failure. Transmission assembly notes also identify the risk of cutting shift-shaft O-rings when the shafts are forced into the housing.

Hilliard AWD and Rear Differential Service

The Centralized Hilliard exploded view and side cutaway view support armature, roller-cage, and AWD electrical coil checks. Rear gearcase coverage addresses the differential shift solenoid and locking mechanism.

Rear gearcase limit: The pinion assembly is not intended for disassembly, and ring-and-pinion shimming data are excluded. Damage to the pinion, its bearings, or the case calls for assembly replacement.

Steering, Suspension, and Hydraulic Brakes

Steering gear box and independent rear suspension sections cover component removal and inspection. Brake procedures distinguish standard and Crew rear calipers and cover hydraulic brake master cylinder replacement, with component torque specifications and wear limits.

Frame and cargo-box diagrams identify mounting hardware and pivot fasteners. Work around the raised cargo box requires proper support, and engine/transmission removal requires suitable lifting equipment.

VCM Diagnosis and Circuit References

VCM diagnosis follows cooling-fan, differential, parking-brake, and glow-plug functions. Visual references include Test 1 – No All Wheel Drive, the Cooling System Break-Out Diagram, Charging System Alternator Wiring Diagram, and Starter Motor Wiring Diagram.

Starter voltage-drop and charging-system tests are included, but internal starter and alternator repair procedures belong to the omitted Chapter 11.

A Preview of Compression and Drivetrain Fill Data

These figures are a small sample of the engine reference and lubrication data in the manual. For the Yanmar 3TNM72-APL, standard cylinder compression is listed as 470 ± 15 psi; the text notes that cranking speed affects the reading.

The transmission lubrication section specifies 32 oz. (946 ml) of AGL Plus. The front gearcase uses 6.75 oz. (200 ml) of Demand Drive Plus, with fill-level guidance for a level vehicle.
