Maintenance coverage carries routine service into brake bleeding, pad replacement, clutch and throttle-cable adjustment, rear-belt deflection and wear analysis, steering-head fall-away, FLSTSC rocker-bearing inspection, fork-oil replacement, headlamp alignment, storage, and symptom-based troubleshooting. Separate chapters document both laced-wheel configurations, while model splits continue through wheel, brake, fork, fender, handlebar, seat, saddlebag, fuel-tank, and exhaust procedures. The FLSTSC and FXSTD are not treated as generic Softails.

The engine chapter is built for actual overhaul work. It covers compression and cylinder-leakage testing, oil-pressure checks, valve-train and oil-consumption diagnosis, cylinder-head inspection with guide replacement and seat refacing, cylinder deglazing, boring and honing, piston and ring service, cam needle bearings, crankshaft bearings, hydraulic counterbalancer tensioners, and oil-flow diagnosis. Scope and Shop Notes

The service manual contains wiring diagrams and component-level electrical repair, but it directs check-engine diagnosis and many sensor-function tests to the separate Softail Models Electrical Diagnostic Manual. That companion publication and the parts catalog are not part of this PDF.

On the FLSTSC, the Springer steering-head tool is for adjustment only; using it to seat the upper retainer can bend its pins. The rear-wheel chapter also requires new sprocket fasteners because reused screws can lose torque and damage the sprocket or belt.

The manual's lifting and support warnings apply directly to engine, fork, wheel, brake, and rear-fork repair: the motorcycle must be securely supported under the frame on a suitable lift or stand before heavy or structural components are removed.
