Fuel Injection and ECU Fault Tracing

The electronically controlled fuel-injection section explains how the ECU uses sensors and actuators to control injection timing, injection duration and cold-start airflow. It covers the linear control valve, decompression solenoid and separate intake-air pressure sensors.

Having the ECU self-diagnostic fault code index alongside the sensor-data and actuator-verification tables lets a technician connect a displayed fault with its wiring checks and component tests. Troubleshooting also addresses poor running without a detected self-diagnostic fault.

Throttle-body coverage includes removal, inspection, cleaning and synchronization; the manual cautions against unnecessary disassembly. The air induction section treats the air cut-off valve and reed valves individually.

Internal Engine and Transfer-Gear Repair

Engine sections cover cylinder-head, camshaft, piston, crankshaft and connecting-rod work. Valve-lifter instructions include kerosene priming and installed bleeding, with illustrations showing the different push-rod positions.

Crankshaft inspection includes Plastigauge checks and color-coded big-end bearing selection. The manual warns that interchanging big-end bearings and connecting rods can cause incorrect clearance and engine damage.

Transfer-gear procedures cover the primary chain, middle drive gear, middle driven shaft and separate oil pump. Cylinder-head nut sequences and tightening data for the generator rotor and middle drive gear nut accompany assembly procedures.

Generator and starter-clutch service is supported by exploded assembly views. Engine oil flow diagrams and transfer gear oil flow diagrams trace the separate lubrication circuits.

Brake, Fork and Belt Service

Step-by-step procedures cover hydraulic brake bleeding and front-fork disassembly and reassembly, including damper-rod work, seal replacement and oil-level checks.

Drive-belt handling cautions address damage from turning the belt inside out or bending it too sharply. Rear-shock coverage includes removal, inspection and spring-preload adjustment; the manual warns against opening the nitrogen-charged unit.

Selected Sensor, Fork and Oil Specifications

For ignition diagnosis, crankshaft position sensor resistance is specified at 248–372 Ω at 20 °C (68 °F), between the gray and black leads.

The front-fork assembly section specifies an oil level of 100 mm from the top of the outer tube and damper rod, with the outer tube fully compressed and the spring removed.

Lubrication data distinguishes the 5.0 L total engine-oil quantity from the 4.1 L refill quantity when the oil filter cartridge is replaced.
