Model and Publication Coverage
The four supplements document successive FJ1200 configurations rather than treating every machine as one unchanged model. The earliest section covers FJ1200S/SC, with 1UX and 1WJ engine-number prefixes. The FJ1200W/WC section identifies model codes 3SK1 and 3SK2, the FJ1200B/BC section uses 4AH1 and 4AH2, and the ABS-equipped FJ1200AD/ADC section uses 4CR1 and 4CR2. California “C” versions receive their own identification data and, where applicable, separate evaporative-emission or canister-hose routing.
The included Yamaha supplements were issued from December 1985 through September 1991. This matters because later repair information builds on the earlier publications instead of repeating every base procedure.
Important scope point: these are supplementary manuals. Yamaha specifies the FJ1100L/LC Service Manual, LIT-11616-04-08, as the underlying service reference. The four FJ1200 supplements are contained in this PDF, but the FJ1100L/LC base manual itself is not part of this 317-page file.
FJ1200AD/ADC Anti-Lock Brake System
The 4CR-series AD/ADC section contains the most specialized material in the set. It explains the ABS architecture from wheel-speed sensing through ECU processing and hydraulic pressure control, including the front and rear wheel sensors, sensor rotors, electronic control unit, fail-safe relay, hydraulic unit, warning-light circuit, and ABS test coupler.
Troubleshooting is organized around Yamaha's self-diagnosis system and warning-light behavior. The fault table covers codes 11, 12, 13/14, 15, 21, 31-34, and 41, with fault isolation for sensor circuits, solenoid circuits, the fail-safe relay, hydraulic-unit motor, wiring, and brake hydraulic operation. Dedicated service sections cover ECU and relay removal/inspection, front and rear wheel-sensor and sensor-rotor service, hydraulic-unit removal and installation, brake-system air bleeding, hydraulic-unit operational testing, fault-code clearing, and the final inspection before the motorcycle is returned to service.
ABS-specific service tools are identified by Yamaha part number, including the YM-03149 / 90890-03149 ABS test coupler adapter, YM-04126 sensor-rotor puller guide, and YM-04124 / 90890-04124 sensor-rotor installation tool. Pocket-tester procedures and component-specific electrical test specifications are also included.
Chassis, Engine, Fuel, and Electrical Repair Content
The earlier supplements add repair material well beyond the ABS system. The B/BC section includes front and rear wheel work, front and rear brakes, front fork service, rear shock absorber and swingarm coverage, engine assembly and adjustment, and engine remounting. The W/WC publication adds front-brake pad replacement, caliper disassembly, inspection and assembly, plus diagnostic sections for the digital ignition, electric starting system, and fuel-pump circuit.
The S/SC supplement includes cylinder and piston inspection and repair, throttle-cable adjustment, fuel-tank breather and California canister inspection, upper and lower cowling work, the fuel-reserve system, digital clock circuit, and carburetor air-vent system. Its appendix carries general and maintenance specifications, cable routing, and additional wiring information.
Useful illustrations include the ABS ECU block diagram, hydraulic-unit normal/reduced/reapplied-pressure diagrams, ABS parts-arrangement and wire-harness coupler layouts, model-specific ABS and motorcycle circuit diagrams, and the separate S/SC, W/WC, B/BC, and AD/ADC wiring diagrams.
Several repair cautions are specific enough to matter before work begins. Yamaha treats the ABS ECU, hydraulic unit, wheel sensors, and related precision components as assemblies rather than field-rebuildable parts. A sensor rotor must not be reused after removal, and damage or an uneven seating surface at the wheel hub can prevent the replacement rotor from seating correctly. Hydraulic-unit hose routing is equally critical: incorrect front/rear connections can produce abnormal brake operation during testing.
Brake and ABS work also involves raised wheels, brake-fluid exposure, and final functional checks. The manual's safety notes and final inspection procedures should be followed before the motorcycle is returned to service.
