The Indian Motorcycle Company of America (IMCA) built Indian Chief Motorcycles in Gilroy, California, from 1999 to 2003. These firstly used clones of Harley-Davidson Advancement engines produced from S&S parts. Later versions utilized the in-house "Powerplus" engine.
A new firm started production of Indian Chiefs in 2006 in North Carolina. These were modernized versions of the IMCA Chief. Production of the Chief was relocated to Spirit Lake, Iowa, after Polaris Industries purchased the firm.
