The earlier volume provides the main turbo-engine mechanical repair material. The later volume adds system descriptions and diagnostic information for its listed configurations; use each volume’s specification tables and circuit layouts for the matching vehicle.

Repair scope: Detailed DOHC engine and manual-transmission procedures focus on turbo applications. The later DOHC chapter describes mechanism and function and does not provide a later-model internal engine overhaul procedure.

Drivetrain limits: Automatic-transmission repair material covers on-car inhibitor-switch inspection and adjustment, without a full internal 4AT rebuild chapter. The viscous-coupling LSD assembly is not presented as a rebuildable unit.

Non-turbo engines receive configuration-specific specifications, maintenance, cooling and emission-control information. DOHC Inspection, Assembly and Timing

For the earlier volume’s turbo engine, the warmed-engine compression test lists a standard range of 981–1,177 kPa (142–171 psi) and a limit of 834 kPa (121 psi), at 200–300 rpm with the throttle fully open.

The same volume’s DOHC timing-belt inspection specifies a tension-adjuster rod extension of 15.4–16.4 mm (0.606–0.646 in), alongside leakage and rod-holding checks.
