Subaru Manual Features & Content Preview
- Covers documents identified in the package as 2005 Legacy GT, 2006 Legacy i/Legacy GT, and 2007 Legacy/Legacy GT Limited material, with sedan/wagon and naturally aspirated/turbo references where the individual section applies.
- Includes H4SO and H4DOTC engine diagnosis and repair sections covering engine removal, compression and pressure testing, valve-clearance inspection, timing-belt and camshaft work, cylinder-head/block service, fuel injection, EVAP, turbocharger/intercooler, TGV, wastegate, and secondary-air systems.
- Covers 4AT operational and pressure testing, removal, and internal repair; 5MT disassembly, synchronizer and differential work, and shim/preload/backlash adjustment; plus separate 5AT mechanism-and-function material.
- Provides system wiring diagrams, power and ground distribution, engine-performance circuits, electrical-component-location views, ECM input/output references, Subaru Select Monitor workflows, DTC procedures, and ABS/EBD hydraulic-control information.
- Extends beyond the powertrain to suspension and alignment, power-steering diagnosis, HVAC recovery/charging and leak testing, airbag post-collision inspection, periodic maintenance, body electrical, instruments, and audio/accessory systems.
Coverage and Document Scope
This PDF package is a multi-year service-information set, not one continuous workshop manual. It combines Mitchell Repair wiring and mechanism-and-function articles with sectioned 2007 service chapters. That distinction matters when selecting a repair procedure: many 2005 and 2006 files are stand-alone system references, while the 2007 H4SO, H4DOTC, 4AT, and 5MT sections go deeper into diagnosis, removal, installation, inspection, adjustment, and repair.
The 2005 material includes Legacy GT system wiring plus front and rear suspension service. The 2006 files address Legacy i and Legacy GT systems including ABS/EBD, 5AT operation, clutch, axle shafts, differentials, cooling, cruise control, brakes, power steering, and body/accessory mechanisms. The 2007 material adds Legacy GT Limited wiring and service chapters for H4SO and H4DOTC engines, 4AT, 5MT, ABS diagnostics, HVAC, SRS, steering, maintenance, instrumentation, and entertainment systems. Applicable suspension and specification material distinguishes sedan and wagon builds and 2.5i, 2.5GT, and Outback configurations. The archive should not be treated as blanket 2005–2008 coverage.
Engine and Drivetrain Repair Depth
The engine chapters support diagnosis and mechanical repair. H4SO and H4DOTC sections include ECM input/output references, component locations, Subaru Select Monitor data and DTC procedures, and tests for starting, idle, compression, intake vacuum, oil and fuel pressure, and ignition timing. Mechanical coverage includes engine removal, overhaul preparation, timing-belt and sprocket service, rocker and camshaft work, cylinder-head and block disassembly, valves, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, lubrication, cooling, and starting/charging. Turbo-specific sections cover the intercooler, turbocharger, air-bypass valve, TGV assemblies and controls, wastegate control, fuel-pump control, and secondary-air injection.
The 4AT material reaches internal repair. It covers road, stall, time-lag, line-pressure, and transfer-clutch pressure testing; removal; control-valve and electronic components; torque-converter and transfer clutches; extension case; center differential carrier; drive pinion and front differential; oil pump; seals; and post-repair learning control and road checks. The 5MT section covers teardown and reassembly, mainshaft and synchronizers, transfer gears, center differential, reverse mechanisms, shift forks and rods, plus shim selection, hypoid backlash, bearing preload, end play, neutral-position, and reverse-check adjustments.
The separate 5AT file has a different scope. It explains construction and operation through clutch, brake, planetary-gear, valve-body, solenoid, hydraulic-control, lockup, power-flow, adaptive-control, and control-failure charts, but it is not a complete 5AT overhaul chapter. This prevents mechanism information from being mistaken for a full transmission repair procedure.
Electrical, ABS, Chassis, and Reference Material
Representative diagram coverage includes 2005 Legacy GT engine-performance circuits and ground-distribution diagrams; 2007 GT Limited air-conditioning and separate naturally aspirated/turbo engine circuits; ECM input/output and component-location views; 5AT clutch, planetary, and valve-body exploded views with hydraulic-control charts; and ABS hydraulic-control and EBD function graphs. ABS coverage explains the four-sensor, four-channel layout, integrated ABSCM/H/U, valve and motor relays, pressure increase/hold/decrease control, wheel-speed and G-sensor inputs, and electronic brake-force distribution. Diagnostic sections add warning-light checks, inspection mode, DTC reading and clearing, circuit diagnosis, and Subaru Select Monitor procedures.
Suspension chapters cover alignment, struts, arms, hubs, stabilizers, lateral links, and trailing links. Power-steering material includes the pump, steering gear, column, pipes, reservoir, pressure testing, bleeding, and fault diagnosis. HVAC coverage includes refrigerant recovery and charging, leak testing, compressor oil, blower/heater components, condenser and evaporator service, relays, switches, and cabin sensors. Referenced tools include Subaru Select Monitor kit 1B020XU0, 4AT pressure gauge 498575400, 5MT drive-pinion gauge 499917500, and power-steering pressure gauge 925711000.
Repair Notes and Safety
The 4AT instructions warn against placing the oil pan inner face upward or using lint-bearing cloth on internal parts; contamination can enter the valve body and create hydraulic-control faults. During 5MT differential assembly, left/right bearing races and selected shims must remain in their correct locations, since mixing or trapping them changes preload and backlash and can damage the gearset. ABS work places yellow SRS wiring near wheel-speed-sensor and ABSCM/H/U circuits; probing or damaging that harness can compromise restraint-system components.
ABS hydraulic service, SRS work, refrigerant recovery/charging, pressure testing, and engine or transmission removal require proper isolation, support equipment, and competent shop practice.
