4 Steps to Prepping Your Snowmobile
There are many things you can do to make sure your snowmobile operates perfectly during the winter. Some of these include:
Step 1: Execute a thorough visual inspection of your snowmobile
Under good lighting, take a look all over your machine for any worn belts, loose components or parts, and any other obvious stresses, cracks or buckling. Refer to your owner's manual to see the lubrication points on your snowmobile and lubricate as shown using a grease gun. Just be sure to shun adding too much grease during this process. It should just be observable outside the joint. Step 2: Add fresh fluids
If you had your snowmobile in storage with gas left in the tank, remove the tank before putting any fresh gasoline. Any gasoline left in the tank will be of low quality after many months of sitting and could make your snowmobile run inadequately. If required, add brake fluid; consult your manual for the precise grade of fluid that should be used. Coolant should also be filled up to the cold mark. Step 3: Replace sparkplugs
If you take out spark plugs for cleaning or oiling at the end of last winter, make sure to change these as well.
Step 4: Clean the carburetor
The major cause of engine failure when snowmobiles are first taken out is a filthy carburetor. Cleaning the carburetor can be performed with a can of carburetor cleaner and some basic tools. Examine the oil cables and throttle for signs of damage. You should also look out for cracks or damage in the water pump belt and the fan.
These steps and more are what you need to know and perform appropriately if your snowmobiles must give you the fun and peace of mind you desire.
