Nissan Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Two-volume, 2,397-page PDF set reproducing Nissan's factory service manuals for the B13 and N14 series. Volume 1 is a 1,218-page January 1995 printing, Publication No. SM1E-1N4BG0. Volume 2 is a 1,179-page July 1996 printing, Publication No. SM1E-2N4BG0. Both carry a May 1991 edition date and were printed in Japan.
  • Factory identification tables separate B13 4-door sedan, coupe, and T-bar-roof bodies from N14 4-door sedan, 3-door hatchback, and 5-door hatchback models. They also identify left- and right-hand-drive, 2WD/4WD, European, Middle Eastern, and other destination codes.
  • Engine repair chapters cover E10S, GA13DS, GA14DS, GA16DS, GA16DE, SR20DE, SR20DET, CD17, and CD20 applications. Procedures include compression testing, timing-chain or timing-belt service, cylinder-head and valve work, oil-seal replacement, engine removal, cylinder-block overhaul, and SR20DET turbocharger repair.
  • Fuel and emission-control material distinguishes carbureted GA and E engines, GA16DE and SR-series electronic injection, and CD diesels. It includes E.C.C.S. troubleshooting plus CONSULT work support and self-diagnosis for GA16DE and SR20DE. Carburetor adjustment, injection testing, VE-type injection-pump and nozzle service, quick-glow checks, and EGR diagnosis are also covered.
  • Drivetrain coverage separates mechanical clutches from the SR20DET hydraulic system. Overhaul sections cover RN4F30A, RS5F30A, RS5F31A, RS5F32A, and RS5F50A manual transaxles, the RL4F03A automatic, and VTY10A for GA16DS and FTY10A for SR20DET transfer units. Procedures run through removal, disassembly, component repair, shim selection, preload and tooth-contact adjustment, reassembly, plus automatic-transaxle electrical diagnosis and shift-lock service.
  • Chassis chapters distinguish 2WD/4WD drive shafts, hubs, struts, stabilizers, transverse links, and lower ball joints. Brake coverage includes front disc and rear disc/drum repair, master cylinder, booster, parking brake, ABS self-diagnosis, and circuit tests. Steering sections cover R24S/R24N manual systems and PR24SC power steering.
  • Body coverage includes doors, power windows and locks, instrument panels, weatherstrips, seats, sunroof, T-bar roof, glass, mirrors, and body alignment. The R12 HVAC chapter covers operational checks, evacuation, charging, leak testing, and NVR140S, DKV-14C, DKV-14D, and MJS130 compressors. EL adds power-supply routing, starting and charging systems, lighting variants, meters, electrical-unit locations, vehicle harness layouts, and the Super Multiple Junction (S.M.J.).

The volume split follows Nissan's shop organization: Volume 1 covers engine, maintenance, lubrication and cooling, and fuel and emissions work; Volume 2 covers driveline, chassis, body, HVAC, and electrical repair. The shared GI material decodes model prefixes, body and grade designations, engine and transaxle serial locations, destination suffixes, and Type I and Type II electrical distinctions. The tables show E10S, GA13DS, and CD17 under B13 configurations, while SR20DET and CD20 appear under N14. They help match the correct repair section or wiring diagram to the actual build before parts, test points, or adjustment data are selected.

Maintenance is divided into schedules for markets outside Europe, Europe excluding the U.K., and the U.K., with separate severe-driving schedules. The MA chapter also covers pre-delivery inspection, recommended lubricants and fluids, engine maintenance, and chassis/body checks. Related sections provide standard-bolt and component-specific torque tables, refill capacities, pressure-test data, wear limits, shim-selection charts, belt and valve adjustments, and electrical test values, organized by assembly and application.

Numbered special-service-tool tables run through both volumes. Representative entries include the ST0501S000 engine stand assembly, ST2505S001 automatic-transaxle pressure-gauge set, KV38101900 master gauge for bearing-shim selection, and KV999G0010 fuel-tank lock-ring socket. The preparation pages also identify tool application and commercial equivalents where Nissan permits them.

Useful diagnostic drawings include the GA engine and emission-control circuit diagram, the foldout SR E.C.C.S. wiring diagram, radiator-fan motor electrical circuits, the ABS quick-pinpoint circuit, A/C component and harness layouts, and the EL power-supply routing and vehicle harness layouts. Flowcharts, connector orientation symbols, electrical-unit locations, exploded assemblies, and section views support both fault isolation and mechanical repair.

The manual flags two repair traps that are easy to miss. During timing-drive work, turning the crankshaft and camshaft separately after the chain or belt is removed can bring the valves into contact with the pistons. On full-time 4WD models, on-car wheel balancing with unequal wheel speeds or opposite rotation can damage the transaxle gearing. The SR engine material also includes dedicated handling and disposal precautions for sodium-filled exhaust valves.

Review the GI precautions and factory lifting and towing points before supporting or moving the vehicle. The corresponding chapters identify the required precautions and service equipment for fuel, cooling, brake, and R12 refrigerant work. Body alignment data and trim and glass repair are included, but corrosion repair is referred to a separate Nissan Corrosion Repair Manual.
