John Deere CTM5, revised October 20, 1992, is the component technical manual for the K Series air-cooled gasoline engines: FA130D, FA210D, FA210V, FG150G/FG150D, FC150V, KF82D/FZ340D, FC290V/FC400V/FC420V/FC540V, FE290D/FE290R, and FB460V.

Carburetor Builds and Valve Work

FA130D and FA210D coverage separates pulse-pump and float-type carburetor arrangements. Matching the full engine designation to the application chart and carburetor section helps avoid choosing a rebuild procedure for a different fuel-system configuration.

The FC400V/FC420V/FC540V carburetor section identifies fuel-control solenoids and the pressed-in pilot jet on FC540V-BS00. FG150D carburetor drawings distinguish assemblies on either side of the carburetor serial break.

Valve-service references include guide inside diameters, seat angles and intake/exhaust clearance limits. Tool listings identify the JDM70 valve spring compressor and JDG504 valve guide driver where required.

Crankshafts, Balancers and Lubrication

For FB460V crankshaft inspection, the specified end-play range is 0.09–0.22 mm (0.004–0.009 in.). Separate illustrations show measurement and shim-based adjustment.
