1996–2005 JCB Robot 150, 165 & 165 HF Skid Steer Loader Service Manual (P/N 9803/8500)

JCB service publication 9803/8500 covers the 1996–2005 Robot 150 and 165 skid steer loaders, including the 165 HF. It addresses standard and High-flow hydraulics, manual and servo controls, and canopy and cab configurations.

Hydrostatic Diagnosis and Pump Repair

Series 40 M35 pumps apply to early servo machines through serial number 676354 and to manual-control machines. Later servo machines use Series 42 M28 pumps.

The troubleshooting charts address loss of drive, weak traction, brake faults, and creeping in neutral. Pump Main Pressure Test Points drawings and motor case-drain leakage tables support the pump-versus-motor checks, helping isolate the source of a one-sided drive fault before component repair.

Series 42 scope: Procedures cover the shaft seal, charge check and high-pressure relief valves, charge/anti-stall valve, and adjustments. A complete rebuild requires a dynamic test jig and falls outside this manual's scope.

Loader Valves, Auxiliary Pumps, and Servo Controls

Hydraulic data and schematics distinguish machines through 677000, 677001–677999, and from 678000. At 678000, the servo supply changes from the pressure reducing solenoid valve arrangement to transmission-pump charge pressure routed through the brake valve.

Loader Valve Neutral Circuit and Load Hold Check Valves illustrations explain oil paths alongside exploded valve drawings. Repair coverage separates manual, servo, and solenoid spools, including manual-spool lockout solenoids from serial number 678316.

Relief-valve bench testing specifies Husco test block 892/00252 and Commercial Hydraulics test block 892/00923.

Standard auxiliary pump coverage includes inspection and bench flow-test data. High-flow auxiliary pump disassembly is limited to resealing when output is satisfactory. The pump inspection notes warn that abrasives can destroy critical gear and bearing dimensions.

Drive Motors, Chain Cases, and Brakes

Motor procedures distinguish builds through 676354 and from 676355, with additional instructions for later twin-bearing output shafts. Wheel Hub Assembly exploded views separate the hub designs at 676702; later chains require initial assembly tensioning rather than routine service adjustment.

Towing and winching preparation also differs by motor generation. The manual explains the risk of hydraulic-pump damage when a disabled machine is moved without releasing the hydrostatic braking.

Wiring, Charging, and Starting Circuits

Circuit diagrams distinguish early wiring, machines from 675358–677000, and later canopy/cab layouts with manual or servo controls. The manual-control diagrams identify the interlock wiring change at 678410.

Wire-number tables cover panel/cab, mainframe, and front roof harnesses. Alternator testing and disassembly accompany specifications for the Peugeot engine's 65-amp unit and the JCB Diesel engine's 55-amp unit, plus starter-circuit voltage tests and diode checks.

Engine Service and Maintenance References
