Maintenance and System Coverage
The YFZ350T base volume contains the main repair depth: engine removal and overhaul through the cylinder head, reed valve assembly, cylinders and pistons, clutch and primary drive gear, kick axle, shift mechanism, stator, crankcase, transmission, shifter, and crankshaft. Separate cooling-system chapters cover radiator and water-pump removal, inspection, and installation. Carburetion coverage includes the twin VM26SS carburetors, a carburetor sectional view, synchronization, fuel-level and float-height checks, disassembly/assembly, adjustment, setting changes, and reed-valve service.
Chassis repair is equally specific. Procedures cover front and rear wheels, rear axle, front and rear disc brakes, caliper and master-cylinder disassembly, brake-disc inspection, air bleeding, steering, steering knuckles and tie-rod ends, front arms, rear swingarm, and shock absorbers. The YFZ350A supplement adds the rear axle nut wrench YM-37132, revised front-brake work, suspension adjustments, and the multi-stage rear-axle ring-nut setting. The YFZ350B supplement documents changed front-arm and shock specifications and installation details.
Electrical diagnosis is not limited to a wiring sheet. The base manual includes ignition and lighting troubleshooting plus the Throttle Override System (T.O.R.S.), with switch, coil, pickup-coil, source-coil, and wiring checks. Before repair or adjustment work, follow the Yamaha safety notes for the specific system. The rear shock is a high-pressure nitrogen unit and is not to be opened or exposed to high heat. The manual also warns that forcing the YFZ350P damping adjusters past their limits can damage the adjusters; spinning bearings dry with compressed air can damage bearing surfaces; and brake fluid can damage painted or plastic parts.
Specification and Data Highlights
The base YFZ350T specification tables identify the 347 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke twin, 64 × 54 mm bore and stroke, six-speed constant-mesh transmission, and premix lubrication. Listed premix ratios are YAMALUBE “R” at 24:1 and Castrol R30, A545, or A747 at 20:1. Transmission-oil capacity is 1.5 L for a periodic change and 1.7 L total, while cooling-system capacity is 1.5 L.
The variant tables are especially useful where settings changed. The base YFZ350T carburetor data calls for a #210 main jet, while the YFZ350A and YFZ350P specifications list #200; the P supplement gives a 20.5–21.5 mm float height and 1,450–1,550 r/min idle speed. YFZ350P cooling data specifies a 95–125 kPa (13.8–18.1 psi) radiator-cap opening pressure. Its digital ignition data gives 17° BTDC at 1,200 r/min and 10° BTDC at 9,500 r/min.
Brake and suspension tables show the same level of detail. YFZ350P rear-brake data specifies DOT 4 fluid, a 220.0 × 3.6 mm rear disc, and a 1.0 mm pad wear limit. Rear-shock preload is listed at 220.5 mm standard, 213.5 mm minimum, and 228.5 mm maximum, with the locknut torqued to 54 Nm (39 ft-lb); rebound is 13 clicks out from fully in and compression is 11 clicks in from fully out. Other factory torque references include 28 Nm for the cylinder head, 90 Nm for the clutch boss, 80 Nm for the flywheel magneto, and 45 Nm for the wheel-panel nut. For the YFZ350A rear axle, the ring-nut procedure uses 55 Nm, 190 Nm, and a final 240 Nm setting with the specified rear-axle nut wrench.
