1981–1984 Yamaha BR250F Bravo Snowmobile Service Manual with BR250TJ & BR250TV Supplements (P/N LIT-12618-00-41)

This Yamaha BR250 Bravo package combines the BR250F service manual (LIT-12618-00-41; 8R4-28197-10, first edition June 1981) with the BR250TJ (LIT-12618-00-70; 8Y1-28197-10) and BR250TV (LIT-21618-01-61; 8BD-28197-10) supplements. The TV supplement includes BR250T and BR250TS data.

• Engine repair: Engine removal and installation, crankcase disassembly, piston and crankshaft inspection, recoil starter repair, and flywheel magneto service.

• Carburetion: Keihin BD32-28 disassembly, float inspection, cable adjustment, low-speed troubleshooting, and altitude and temperature jetting charts.

• Power train: Primary and secondary sheave service, clutch engagement and shift-RPM tuning, chain-case gearing, and V-belt inspection.

• Chassis and suspension: Disc brake adjustment, slide rail suspension removal, track alignment, steering and ski service, plus BR250TV fuel sub-tank removal.

• Electrical diagnosis: C.D.I. troubleshooting, ignition and lighting tests, voltage-regulator checks, and throttle override system switch testing.

• Workshop references: Wiring diagrams, cable routing sheets, exploded assemblies, torque tables, wear limits, and maintenance and lubrication schedules.

Yamaha wrote the main manual for mechanics; the repair work described calls for measuring instruments and the specified clutch service tools.

BR250TJ and BR250TV Supplement Coverage

The TJ supplement documents its revised primary sheave and throttle override system (T.O.R.S.). The TV supplement adds fuel sub-tank service, electrical diagnosis, and separate BR250T/TS specification tables.

The BR250TV section provides supplementary updates. Its foreword also requires earlier BR250G, BR250H and BR250T publications that are not included in this file.

Engine, Carburetor and Autolube Service

The BR250F's one-piece cylinder/head assembly receives specific boring and honing guidance alongside piston, ring, bearing and crankshaft inspection and reassembly. Its machining cautions explain the risk of damaging the integral combustion chamber.

The Keihin section connects hard starting, poor idle and weak acceleration with checks of fuel delivery, jets, float-valve operation and intake leakage. A fuel-flow chart separates the carburetor's operating ranges.

Autolube coverage includes pump-stroke checks, cable adjustment and bleeding, with Yamalube 2-cycle oil specified in the lubrication schedule.

Clutch, Chain Case and Running Gear

Sheave alignment and clutch tuning are supported by roller, slider, bushing and spring inspection procedures. BR250TJ clutch service identifies the Clutch Spider Separator YS-28890-A and adapter YS-34480; the fixed-sheave cautions address cracking during high-torque separation or tightening.

Chain-case coverage includes sprocket selection and chain adjustment. Brake-pad clearance, suspension stopper-band settings, drive-axle service and track alignment have their own inspection or adjustment sections.

Lubrication instructions distinguish molybdenum-disulfide grease locations from areas that must remain grease-free. The BR250F appendix contains 23 exploded-view plates with assembly callouts, alongside torque and metric conversion tables.

Follow the manual's precautions for rotating clutches and tracks, preloaded springs, and fuel-system servicing.

Ignition, T.O.R.S. and Lighting Diagnosis

The troubleshooting charts separate weak/no-spark checks from lighting faults and specify the relevant coil, switch and voltage-regulator tests. The TV supplement adds handlebar and carburetor switch continuity checks.

Separate F8R4 and F85L magneto data help prevent the later ignition system from being assessed against an earlier coil specification. Ignition and lighting circuit diagrams, the T.O.R.S. block diagram, and supplement-specific cable routing drawings support fault tracing.

The spark-plug condition chart accompanies the mixture and ignition discussion. The BR250TV supplement gives conflicting plug types in its service and specification sections; plug selection requires confirmation for the individual machine.

These figures are a small selection of the engine inspection and electrical test data in the manuals.

BR250F specifications give a cylinder taper wear limit of 0.05 mm and piston-to-cylinder clearance of 0.045–0.050 mm at the specified skirt measurement point.

At 20°C (68°F), BR250F/TJ ignition data list 426 ohms (±10%) for the charge coil and 20 ohms (±10%) for the pulser coil. The BR250TV supplement specifies 275 ohms (±20%) for the BR250T/TS source coil at the same temperature.
