The 23C diesel section has its own overhaul coverage, including the oil pump, valve seats and guides, Ricardo swirl chambers, timing chain and hydraulic tensioner, injector-pump drive housing, pistons, liners, crankshaft, and rear oil seal. Carburetor-engine information extends to 87 mm petrol, V.O., and L.O. ignition and fuel-system specifications.

Factory data goes well beyond general tune-up figures. The manual gives journal diameters, bearing clearances, ring gaps, valve and timing settings, cooling-system capacities, tightening torques, and component test limits. Electrical repair data is based on the original dynamo system rather than an alternator: the C39P-2 dynamo is identified as Part No. 22259, while separate M45G and M35G starter specifications are provided for diesel and carburetor tractors. Carburetor-engine distributor settings are also split by petrol, V.O., and L.O. applications, with engine-number change points where timing specifications were revised.

Hydraulic and Transmission Specifications

The Ferguson hydraulic system section covers draft control, position control, response control, overload release, external pressure take-off, the control-valve mechanism, lift cover, ram cylinder, control spring, pump removal and overhaul, linkage adjustment, and a hydraulic fault table. A major serial break occurs between tractors up to No. 65684 and No. 65685 onward. The later pump uses a .915-inch bore and is specified for a minimum delivery of 3.333 Imperial gallons per minute at 1,500 psi and 720 pump rpm. Hydraulic-system relief pressure is nominally 2,500 psi; test limits call for the valve to begin opening at no less than 2,300 psi and not exceed 2,800 psi while bypassing 2 Imperial gallons per minute. Lower-link lift capacity from the lowest position changes from 1,500 lb on early tractors to 2,500 lb on later tractors.

The standard transmission is a three-forward/one-reverse sliding-spur unit compounded by a planetary dual-range set, producing six forward and two reverse speeds. De-Luxe dual-clutch tractors use a separate drive path for the hydraulic pump and P.T.O. Multi-Power receives its own repair chapter: the hydraulic multi-plate clutch, freewheel, gear pump, control valve, linkage adjustment, complete transmission dismantling/reassembly, and fault finding are all covered. Factory pressure checks specify 150 psi Multi-Power operating pressure and 260-300 psi pump relief-valve pressure at 1,500 engine rpm.

Factory Repair Procedures and Reference Views

Shop-level procedures include engine removal, cylinder-head and bottom-end overhaul, clutch dismantling and adjustment, splitting the tractor at the engine/transmission and transmission/center-housing joints, Multi-Power clutch and pump repair, differential and rear-axle setup, hydraulic lift-cover and pump work, P.T.O. bearing and seal service, steering-box overhaul, front-axle service, and mechanical/dual-brake repair.
