The principal factory volume is the 1992 Mazda 323 Protegé Workshop Manual, Form 1270-10-91G / 9999-95-017B-92, with Wiring Diagram 5209-10-91F / 9999-95-019G-92. It covers Protegé VIN groups JM1 BG223 through BG226 and three-door hatchback groups JM1 BG231 through BG233 from N0 400001 onward. Its sections extend from scheduled maintenance and B6/BP engine repair through fuel injection, emissions, charging and starting systems, clutch, F5M-R and G5M-R manual transaxles, F4A-EL automatic transaxle, brakes, steering, suspension, body, heating and air conditioning, technical data, special tools, and wiring.

The 1990 North American 4WD supplement, Form 1213-10-89I, applies to JM1 BG227 and BG228 vehicles from L0 100001 onward. The Europe/Australia 4WD supplement, Form 1229-10-89L, identifies the JMZ BG8262, BG8362, BG82F2, BG83F2, and BG83H2 groups, plus JMO BG10P1, from 100001 onward. The later 1999–2000 article distinguishes the BP 1.8L DOHC Miata application from the FP 1.8L DOHC Protegé application.
