Honda Manual Features & Content Preview
- 634-page Yamaha OEM PDF set: Service Manual P/N LIT-11616-24-48, 536 pages, covering V Star and Stryker models XVS13AA(C), XVS13CTA(C), and XVS13CA(C); Owner's Manual P/N LIT-11626-24-50, 98 pages, covering XVS13CA(C). Both are first editions dated July 2010.
- Engine and transmission repair coverage runs from engine removal and installation through camshaft timing, cylinder-head and valve service, piston and cylinder inspection, crankcase work, oil-pump service, crankshaft inspection, clutch repair, and constant-mesh transmission assembly.
- Chassis procedures address wheel removal and static balancing, brake caliper and master-cylinder service, hydraulic brake bleeding, front-fork disassembly and assembly, steering-head inspection, swingarm and rear-shock work, and belt-drive removal and adjustment.
- Fuel and cooling-system work covers fuel-tank and pump removal, injector and throttle-body checks, fuel-pressure testing, throttle-position-sensor adjustment, throttle-body synchronization, radiator testing, thermostat inspection, and water-pump service.
- Electrical diagnosis is organized around ignition, starting, charging, lighting, signaling, cooling-fan, fuel-injection, and fuel-pump circuit diagrams, with ECU self-diagnostics, diagnostic mode, sensor tests, and system-specific troubleshooting paths.
- The companion owner's manual explains controls and instruments, the ignition circuit cut-off system, pre-operation checks, riding and break-in guidance, scheduled maintenance, minor repair tasks, motorcycle care and storage, and starting and overheating troubleshooting charts.
Yamaha produced the service manual primarily for its dealers and qualified mechanics, and it states that anyone using it for maintenance or repair should already understand basic motorcycle mechanics and repair techniques. The owner's manual is aimed at the rider performing inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs; it directs work requiring special data, tools, or technical skill to a Yamaha dealer.
Exact Model and Variant Identification
The service manual's model table identifies the U.S. and California builds as XVS13AA 3D8D / XVS13AAC 3D8E, XVS13CTA 5S6D / XVS13CTAC 5S6E, and XVS13CA 1GP1 or 27D1 / XVS13CAC 1GP2 or 27D2. Separate sections distinguish XVS13CA(C) from XVS13AA(C)/XVS13CTA(C) in chassis torque data, cable routing, drive-belt adjustment, headlight service, brake hardware, and electrical circuits. California-only evaporative-emission canister checks are identified as well. The full wiring sheets are specifically labeled 2011. The 98-page owner's manual applies only to XVS13CA(C), while the service manual carries all three model codes.
Internal Engine and Chassis Service Depth
The 1304 cc liquid-cooled V-twin and five-speed constant-mesh transmission are documented well beyond routine tune-up work. Exploded assembly views and job instruction charts support camshaft and timing-chain service, cylinder-head inspection, valve and valve-seat work, piston and ring checks, crankcase disassembly, connecting-rod bearing selection, oil-pump inspection, and transmission reassembly. Reference sections supply component-specific torque tables, lubrication data, fluid capacities, wear limits, clearances, and electrical test specifications.
Repair cautions are tied to the affected parts. The camshaft section warns that turning the crankshaft during installation can cause damage or incorrect valve timing. Front-fork procedures explain that a scratched inner tube or excessive separation force can damage the oil seal and bushing.
Diagnostic Diagrams and Required Tools
Named reference material includes the engine-oil lubrication chart, cooling-system diagrams, model-specific cable-routing views, fuel-injection circuit diagrams, the ECU self-diagnostic function table, and full 2011 wiring diagrams for XVS13AA(C)/XVS13CTA(C) and XVS13CA(C). The separate troubleshooting chapter covers starting, idle and higher-speed performance, shifting and clutch faults, overheating, braking, fork and handling problems, and lighting or signaling failures. Each removal or disassembly section also opens with an exploded view and an ordered job chart, so the repair sequence, replacement parts, lubricants, and special-tool calls are visible together.
For tool planning, Yamaha lists the Vacuummate YU-44456 / 90890-03094, rear drive-belt tension gauge YM-03170 / 90890-03170, adjustable fork-seal driver YM-01442 / 90890-01442, and fuel-pressure adapter YM-03176 / 90890-03176, among other application-specific tools.
Brake, steering, suspension, fuel-system, and engine-timing repairs can affect safe operation if performed incorrectly. Yamaha calls for the correct tools and qualified mechanical knowledge; safety-critical repair work should be referred to a Yamaha dealer or qualified motorcycle technician when either is lacking.
