Yamaha Manual Features & Content Preview
- Covers 2011 XVS13AA(C), XVS13CTA(C), and XVS13CA(C) in the service manual, plus a separate XVS13CTA(C) owner’s manual for operation and routine upkeep.
- Engine repair procedures run from removal and cylinder-head work to camshaft timing, piston inspection, crankcase separation, and crankshaft service.
- Wet-clutch and five-speed transmission sections cover teardown, inspection, and assembly, along with shift-mechanism and belt-drive service.
- Chassis work includes brake-caliper and master-cylinder overhaul, hydraulic bleeding, fork rebuilding, steering bearings, and swingarm removal.
- Fuel-injection diagnosis combines fuel-pressure testing, throttle-position-sensor adjustment, ECU fault-code troubleshooting, and sensor/actuator checks.
- Cooling-system procedures cover radiator-cap pressure testing, thermostat bench testing, and internal water-pump service.
- Model-specific wiring diagrams support circuit-level testing of starting, charging, ignition, lighting, and cooling-fan systems.
The set contains 640 pages across two PDFs: a 536-page service manual, P/N LIT-11616-24-48, and a 104-page owner’s manual, P/N LIT-11626-24-49. Both Yamaha publications are first editions dated July 2010.
Operation and Routine Maintenance
The owner’s manual details main switch functions, steering-lock operation, multi-function meter display settings, and handlebar switch operation. It also covers routine upkeep tasks like engine oil changes and spark plug inspections, plus sidebag loading, windshield care, and long-term storage.
The service manual adds valve-clearance adjustment, throttle-body synchronization, compression testing, and control-cable adjustment. Ignition timing is checked rather than adjusted. Factory maintenance charts distinguish emission-control work from general maintenance. The chassis chapter also documents CTA-specific windshield, sidebag, and backrest removal and installation.
Internal Engine and Chassis Repair
Internal engine work includes valve-guide replacement, valve-seat inspection, cylinder and piston wear checks, and color-coded big-end bearing selection with oil-clearance checks. Crankshaft repair notes explain why mixing connecting rods and big-end bearing positions can cause engine damage.
Lower-end chapters cover balancer-gear alignment, oil-pump inspection, and generator/starter-clutch service. Transmission procedures address shaft disassembly, shift forks, gear engagement, and reassembly checks.
Water-pump removal involves crankcase separation. The repair procedures cover the impeller shaft, mechanical seal, oil seal, and bearing—not just external cooling-system components.
Brake procedures distinguish the dual-front-disc AA/CTA models from the single-front-disc CA models. Suspension coverage extends to steering-head bearing adjustment, fork-bushing inspection, and rear-linkage service. Fork disassembly cautions identify oil-flow-stopper damage from bottoming the inner tube.
Rear-shock procedures cover removal, inspection, installation, and preload adjustment—not internal rebuilding of the pressurized damper.
Fuel Injection and Electrical Diagnosis
Fuel-system work includes the sub-fuel tank and pump. Throttle-body coverage is limited to the specified checks, adjustment, removal, and installation—not internal overhaul.
ECU diagnosis uses the instrument-panel diagnostic mode, with fault-history review, sensor readings, actuator tests, and post-repair checks. The Sensor Operation Table and Actuator Operation Table address pressure and temperature inputs, injectors, ignition coils, relays, and idle-speed control. Starting Circuit Cut-Off System Operation diagrams trace the clutch, neutral, and sidestand interlocks.
Model-Specific Specifications and Reference Data
Model tables identify 5S6D/5S6E for the XVS13CTA/XVS13CTAC builds. California-specific emissions coverage includes evaporative-canister and hose-routing information.
The Engine Oil Lubrication Chart and Cooling System Diagrams show the oil and coolant circuits. Reference tables supply wear limits, tightening torques, fluid capacities, and electrical test values, with fuse ratings and tire-pressure/load data for the covered models.
Special-tool references include belt-tension gauge YM-03170 and, for throttle-body synchronization, Vacuummate YU-44456.
Always cross-reference the factory maintenance schedules and verify brake, steering, and drive-belt condition before operating the motorcycle on public roads.
