The service manual provides repair and adjustment procedures, while the illustrated parts lists identify components, quantities and assembly relationships. The additional 075, 076, 084 and 088 publications provide parts identification rather than service procedures.

Engine-section limitation: Printed pages 12–13 are missing from the service manual, leaving its cylinder-and-piston disassembly coverage incomplete. Its introduction also refers earlier machines and subsequent design changes to separate Technical Information sheets, which are outside this collection.

Clutch, Ignition and Fuel-System Repair

This selection of covered topics highlights the main workshop sections rather than reproducing the full contents. Further subjects include decompression-valve parts identification and chain-lubricating-oil requirements.

• Clutch and chain drive: Disassembly and repair instructions, clutch-shoe and spring replacement, sprocket inspection, and separate transmission procedures for the geared model.

• Ignition system: Armature-plate access, breaker-point replacement, ignition-timing checks and adjustment, plus checks for shorts and damaged ignition leads.

• Crankshaft and sealing: Bearing-selection information, crankshaft end-play checks, oil-seal inspection and crankcase leakage testing.

Direct Drive and the Geared Powerhead

The clutch section distinguishes the smaller clutch assembly from the six-shoe design used on the larger models. It explains complete-set replacement of worn shoes and springs, and identifies the clutch-side nut’s left-hand thread.

The geared powerhead has its own transmission disassembly, bearing and seal inspection, and oil-bath lubrication section. The documented sprocket-removal work calls for puller 1109 890 4401, making the required equipment clear before teardown.

Ignition and Fuel-System Diagnosis

The ignition chapter combines breaker-point adjustment with a dial-gauge timing check and electrical fault inspection. These checks help distinguish timing problems from short circuits, deteriorated insulation or faults in the switch, high-tension lead and spark-plug terminal.

Carburetor coverage explains the relationship between the metering diaphragm, inlet control lever and needle valve. Pressure-testing instructions provide a way to assess sealing before selecting replacement parts. The disassembly section identifies where the pump body and diaphragm cover can be separated without damaging the diaphragms.

Oiling, Rewind Starter and Assembly Views

Oil-pump documentation covers the diaphragm-driven mechanism, pump plunger, pickup strainer and supplementary hand pump. The starter chapter includes step-by-step instructions for fitting a new rope and setting spring tension; excessive pretension can break the rewind spring.

The ignition specifications list timing at 2.8–3.2 mm before T.D.C. and distinguish the ignition-side crankshaft nut’s 45 Nm tightening torque from the clutch-side specification.

The carburetor leakage test uses 0.4 bar overpressure. The period fuel specification gives a 1:40 mixture with STIHL engine oil and 1:25 with other branded two-cycle engine oils. These examples accompany the relevant service procedures and adjustment data.
