1995–1997 Jaguar XJ6, XJ12 & XJR Technical Guide Collection (P/N JJM 10 15 12/50)

This factory technical guide collection covers the 1995–1997 Jaguar XJ6, XJ12, and XJR, including normally aspirated and supercharged AJ16 variants. It combines the August 1994 X300 technical introduction, P/N JJM 10 15 12/50, with three subsequent Jaguar publications.

All four publications are supplied in one 215-page PDF.

• AJ16 and V12 engines: Mechanical revisions, engine-management inputs and outputs, ignition and fuel control, Eaton M90 supercharger operation, and cooling-system layouts.

• Transmission systems: Getrag 290 and GM 4L80E applications, transmission-control pinouts, torque-reduction signals, and traction-control interfaces.

• Fuel and emissions: Single- and twin-pump arrangements, EGR variants, evaporative-loss monitoring, and the twin-canister system's automatic leak-test logic.

• Chassis and brakes: Suspension updates, Servotronic steering, Teves Mk IV-GI ABS/traction control, hydraulic layouts, and revised brake hardware.

• Electrical and climate control: Fuse and relay identification, control-module locations, exterior-lighting changes, HVAC sensor and servo operation, and rear-seat heater circuits.

• Diagnostics and restraints: Jaguar PDU and scan-tool connections, SRS fault-code retrieval and interpretation, air bag connector identification, and updated AJ16/V12 diagnostic codes.

Jaguar wrote these guides for dealer workshop personnel using them alongside the Service Manual for diagnosis and repair.

Engine and Transmission Updates

The powertrain sections detail mechanical updates across the 3.2L, 4.0L, and 6.0L engines. AJ16 GEMS and V12 Nippondenso management are treated separately, with fuel delivery, ignition control, emission controls, and component-location illustrations.

The Supercharger System Schematic explains the XJR's bypass arrangement, supported by intercooler and coolant-circuit drawings. Later publications document revised V12 camshafts and valve clearances, AJ16 valve-timing changes, and the XJR's added EGR hardware and transmission filler-tube revision.

Accessory-belt tension tables, selected tightening torques, steering-fluid specifications, and connector data supplement the system descriptions. These guides supplement the Service Manual and do not provide complete engine or transmission overhaul instructions.

Fuel Systems and OBD II Diagnosis

Normally aspirated AJ16 models use a single fuel pump; supercharged and V12 models have twin pumps with different control arrangements. The guide distinguishes their relay controls and engine-management interfaces.

For equipped U.S. XJ6 sedans, the Twin Canister System Schematic and Leak Test Operating Sequence explain how the ECM monitors evaporative-system pressure. Related DTC definitions distinguish leaks, valve-circuit faults, and implausible pressure signals, helping narrow the area to investigate before selecting a repair procedure.

Fuel-system repair notes warn that bending or clamping CAP tubing can permanently deform it and restrict fuel flow. The update also identifies revised tank flanges and sealing arrangements that are not interchangeable.

Chassis and Electrical Architecture

The chassis section covers suspension tuning, steering-rack changes, and the Teves Mk IV-GI anti-lock braking system. The ABS/Traction Control Schematic Layout distinguishes the brake circuits and throttle-control hardware.

The Battery Power Distribution – All Models diagram is backed by fuse, relay, harness-connector, and module-location tables. Supplement 1 documents the change from three exterior-lighting modules to one; the replacement module and associated harnesses are not interchangeable with the earlier arrangement.

Climate-control coverage explains how the automatic HVAC module works with cabin sensors, blower controls, flap servos, and the heater pump. The Rear Seat Heater Schematic accompanies the extended-wheelbase Vanden Plas and XJ12 updates.

PECUS sections identify market-dependent module configurations. SRS coverage explains how incorrect steering-column handling can damage the cable-reel cassette and leave the air bag system inoperative.

Before hands-on repairs or component swaps, cross-check these preliminary factory specifications against the applicable Jaguar Service Manual and Service Bulletins. The final update also covers selected 4.0L XJS changes; its XJS coverage is limited to those updates.
