Hitachi Technical Manual T1LSE-00 covers the ZAXIS30, ZAXIS35, ZAXIS40, and ZAXIS50 mini excavators, with system operation, performance testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting information. The separate Workshop Manual for component removal, installation, and overhaul is not included.

Engine Tests and Repair Scope

Separate V1505 and V2203 sections include engine performance curves and cooling, lubrication, and starting specifications, including thermostat data. Compression testing specifies Kubota tester assemblies 07909-30208 for ZAXIS30/35 and 07909-30204 for ZAXIS40/50.

Injector coverage addresses opening-pressure measurement, spray patterns, leakage checks, and adjustment shims. Internal engine repair is referred to a separate Engine Shop Manual.

Hydraulic Diagnosis and Valve Operation

Pump sections distinguish PVD-1B and PVD-2B units and explain horsepower control of the variable-displacement swash-plate pumps. The Main Pump P-Q Diagram provides separate reference curves for the two model groups.

Control-valve sections explain boom anti-drift, make-up and overload relief valves, the flow combiner valve, and the flow combining selector valve. Arm regenerative valve operation is identified specifically for ZAXIS30/35.

The troubleshooting charts connect actuator symptoms to individual pump circuits, helping distinguish a shared hydraulic supply problem from a fault in one cylinder or valve. Overload relief testing calls for separate test equipment; increasing the main relief setting is not an appropriate substitute.

Travel, Swing and Undercarriage Checks

Travel performance standards distinguish rubber and steel crawlers. Center-joint port assignments differ between model groups, while travel-brake coverage separates the ZAXIS30/35 anti-cavitation valve from the ZAXIS40/50 relief valve.

Component views explain two-stage swing reduction gears, swing parking brakes, and track adjusters. The swing-bearing construction page T3-7-1 listed in the contents is missing from this PDF; the swing-bearing play test is included.

Electrical Circuits and Fault Isolation

Main component layouts locate the electrical equipment. Preheating and charging circuit drawings explain the glow controller and QGS sensor, while starting and accessory circuits cover the starter relay, fuel feed pump, pilot shut-off solenoid valve, and travel speed changeover solenoid valve.

Monitor troubleshooting distinguishes sensor, harness, and display faults. Electrical inspection adds fuse checks, voltage and continuity measurements, short-circuit checks, and wire-color identification.

The inspection notes explain how incorrect probing can damage connector terminals and how disconnecting live harnesses can damage wiring, fuses, and fusible links.

Follow the manual's precautions for hydraulic pressure, raised attachments, and electrical isolation. Hands-on maintenance should be performed by qualified mechanics.

These examples show a small selection of the pump and electrical data in the manual.

The pilot-pump specification lists theoretical maximum flow of 10.4 L/min for ZAXIS30/35 and 9.5 L/min for ZAXIS40/50.

Both engine groups use a 12 V, 40 A alternator rating. The battery-voltage test separately specifies a 14.5 V reading with the engine running.
