The Alternator System Diagnosis chart links charging and accessory symptoms to possible causes. The Alternator Identification table uses stator-wire and connector colors to identify the charging system before selecting its test procedure.

Tri-Circuit alternator illustrations, regulator-rectifier test connections, and System 3/System 4 starter-test diagrams support electrical troubleshooting. Battery installation, charging, and cranking-voltage checks are also covered.

The cylinder inspection section identifies head-mounting-surface distortion greater than 0.004 in. (0.1 mm) as a cylinder-replacement limit.
