Model Coverage and Included Publications
This XVS1100 set combines Yamaha factory service publications with an owner’s manual: 558 PDF pages across two files, including 38 repeated supplement pages.
The 454-page service PDF contains the 348-page XVS1100L/XVS1100LC base manual, P/N LIT-11616-12-63 (first edition, March 1999). It adds the 29-page XVS1100N/XVS1100NC supplement, P/N LIT-11616-14-23 (September 2000), and the 39-page XVS11V/XVS1100SC supplement, P/N LIT-11616-19-12 (October 2005). The remaining 38 pages repeat the latter supplement.
The base manual and N supplement identify US, California, and Canadian specifications. The later supplement identifies the California-market 2004 XVS1100SC and includes XVS1100TC and XVS11VC reference data.
The separate 104-page owner’s manual, P/N LIT-11626-21-28 (first edition, May 2007), covers XVS11X(C), XVS11AWX(C), and XVS11ATX(C). The service supplements update the base manual; the owner’s manual provides operating instructions and minor-maintenance guidance for its separately listed models, not an additional overhaul supplement.
Engine and Shaft-Drive Repair
This documentation covers the essential maintenance routines for the air-cooled 1063cc V-twin engine, five-speed transmission, and shaft final drive. Internal engine coverage extends to camshaft timing, starter-clutch service, oil-pump inspection, and crankcase assembly. Connecting-rod bearing selection and crankpin oil-clearance checks are covered separately from routine valve adjustment.
For shaft-drive repair, the manual identifies the final-gear backlash band YM-01230 and middle-gear backlash band YM-01231. Yamaha warns that hammering the universal-joint drive yoke can distort the collapsible collar and change shaft turning resistance—a specific assembly trap addressed in the middle-gear section.
Diagnostics, Emissions, and Diagrams
Need to track down a misfire or fueling issue? Troubleshooting sections separate fuel, electrical, and compression-related causes of hard starting and poor running. The later supplement expands warning-light self-diagnosis to ignition-coil and fuel-cut-solenoid faults, with corresponding circuit checks.
California-specific material addresses the evaporative-emission solenoid, canister connections, and purge and rollover-valve hose routing. The separate air induction system section covers reed valves, the air cut-off valve, and hose inspection.
Illustrations include Lubrication Diagrams for oil distribution, Cable Routing sheets for harness and hose placement, and Air Induction System Diagrams for emissions plumbing. The Ignition System Circuit Diagram and Shaft Drive Troubleshooting Chart support fault isolation. The XVS11V/XVS1100SC Wiring Diagram for US and California versions includes the later fuel-cut-solenoid circuits.
Owner Maintenance and Wheel Variants
The owner’s manual breaks down operational checks for the clutch, brake hydraulic systems, and throttle assembly. Its fuel/compression/ignition/battery troubleshooting chart complements the service manual’s component-level diagnostics. Separate sections address tire and wheel maintenance: XVS11X(C) uses spoke wheels and tube tires, while XVS11AWX(C)/XVS11ATX(C) uses cast wheels and tubeless tires. Seat removal and rear-shock preload instructions also distinguish these configurations.
Before raised-wheel inspections or chassis work, always verify that the motorcycle is firmly secured on a suitable motorcycle stand; these models are not equipped with a centerstand.
Specifications and Reference Values
Critical fastener torque specs are integrated directly into the assembly data. Reference tables cover fluid capacities, compression specifications, wear limits, clearances, and electrical test values. The maintenance charts identify scheduled intake and exhaust valve-clearance checks.
The later supplement distinguishes fork oil specifications for XVS11V model codes 3B85 and 5PBU, and XVS11VC codes 3B86 and 5PBV. That model-code split matters when selecting suspension service data rather than applying one specification to every version.
