This parts catalog covers Case IH 956, 956XL, 1056, and 1056XL diesel tractors. The base publication is Don. 8-3761, issued February 1988 and printed in England; selected transmission sheets carry Don. 8-3761R1, dated July 1988.

D358 Engine, Injection Pumps, and Cooling

The complete-service-engine listings distinguish 956/956XL applications from engine number 140883 and 1056/1056XL applications from 156183. VA injection-pump entries have earlier/later breaks at 134701/134702 and 152309/152310 respectively; separate VE entries are assigned by model.

These engine-number distinctions help match the pump and injection-line configuration before ordering repair parts. The radiator tables identify Windhoff and Chausson units, including separate Germany-only and France-only entries.

Power Train Coverage and Missing Pages

The July revision sheets distinguish speed-reducer and 40 km/h gearing from other range arrangements. They also identify ZF and Graziano synchronizer components. PTO, transfer-gearbox, differential, and final-drive parts remain covered.

Clutch and shift controls: Printed pages 6-383 through 6-440 are missing. Only the initial double-clutch illustration at 6-382 remains; the Fichtel and Sachs and LUK double-clutch sections, clutch housings, clutch-release parts, and much of the gearshift-control coverage are absent. Speed-reducer linkage pages 6-445 and 6-446 are also missing.

Transmission lubrication: The illustration at 6-496 remains, but pages 6-497 through 6-538 are missing. This affects the 2WD, 4WD, and 40 km/h lubrication sections, the center 4WD valve, and the 40 km/h brake-regulating system. The regulating-valve parts table at 6-539 is included.

Other gaps are pages 1-39 and 1-40 in the lubricants section, and 9-1038 through 9-1042 in the Grammer seat listings.

Exploded Views, Parts Lookup, and Shop Tools

Illustration groups include Complete Service Engines, Condenser and Radiator - Air Conditioning, Synchronized Range Gears, Pneumatic Trailer Brake (One and Two Circuit), and Sensodraulic Pipes and Valves. English, French, and German descriptions accompany part numbers, applicable dimensions, and quantities by model. Country restrictions and optional-equipment notes distinguish the applications.

Group and unit indexes and the rear numerical index support parts lookup. Illustration callouts are reference numbers, not order numbers. The introduction explains the "up to/from" serial notation and when later R suffixes supersede earlier part numbers.

Tool listings cover transmission pullers, engine fixtures, hydraulic repair-kit tools, test-pump connections, and gauges. Specific entries include steering pressure-check tool 3223677R1 and Case-IH Test Centre connector package 3221908R91. These listings identify equipment; they do not provide test procedures.

The catalog warns against replacing location-specific attaching parts with ordinary standard hardware. Use the listed Case IH part numbers when identifying these fasteners.

For hydraulic, brake, driveline, or air-conditioning work, isolate the tractor, support heavy components, and follow the applicable service procedure for stored-pressure or refrigerant hazards before disassembly.

File Format and Readability

The total includes one added title sheet and two original outer-cover pages. The remaining 1,140 pages include the internal title, introductions, indexes, one blank page, six lettered transmission supplements, and one repeated steering-cylinder page; these are all already counted.
