Factory Repair Scope

Cagiva prepared this manual for its workshops and authorized service personnel. The procedures assume motorcycle repair experience, precision measuring equipment, and access to the specified tools; independent mechanics or highly experienced owners should expect to work at that level.

Both motorcycles use air-cooled 90-degree L-twin engines with desmodromic valve gear, but the manual keeps the model differences visible. The 350 uses Dell'Orto PHF 30 carburetors, a wet clutch, and mechanical clutch release. The 650 uses PHF 36 carburetors, a dry clutch, hydraulic release, and an oil cooler. Ignition and charging coverage identifies the Ducati or Saprisa alternator arrangement together with Bosch ignition control and Motoplat coils.

The overhaul chapters go well beyond routine maintenance. They provide inspection and repair coverage for cylinders and pistons, wrist pins and connecting-rod bushings, crankshaft journals and bearing selection, valve seats and guides, rocker arms, camshafts, starter freewheel, oil pump, clutch pack, gear-selection components, shafts, bushings, and carburetors. The troubleshooting tables trace starting faults, engine noise, clutch slip or drag, shifting problems, overheating, steering and suspension symptoms, weak braking, loss of spark, generator output faults, irregular charging, and battery sulfation.

The manual specifically warns that sharp bending or contamination by oil, gasoline, or solvent can permanently damage the toothed timing belts. It also warns that disconnecting the battery while the engine is running can destroy the regulator and that hydraulic clutch or brake fluid can damage paint. Engine removal calls for a suitable lift and secure support.

One scope note matters when evaluating the 650 coverage: the main summary assigns Section J to Elefant 650 hydraulic clutch service, but the section pages carry the factory heading “Alazzurra 650.” Coverage is presented by model and the stated 650 serial split, without a model-year lookup table.
