Model and Configuration Detail
Model matching goes well beyond horsepower. The Command Pro material separates CS8.5 engines with 92xxxx specifications from the later 95xxxx design. The KT manual distinguishes full-pressure Series II builds beginning with KT17 specification 24300 and KT19 specification 49200 from earlier pressurized-spray versions; all KT21 engines remain in the pressurized-spray group. TP-2379 identifies K181 New Look differences and documents the Automatic Compression Release serial break at 9006118. Later hardened ACR tabs are permanently set and will break if bent, while earlier engines retain a checking and adjustment procedure.
The CH18-25 Command manual also contains LPG service and a dedicated CH26 EFI chapter, but that chapter is fuel-system coverage rather than a complete CH26 engine overhaul manual. The older K482/K532/K582/K662 publication adds special fuel systems, wet and dry clutch information, gear-reduction units, alternator accessories, and fastener torque sequences. The K361 manual includes Service Bulletins 142, 144, and 154.
Repair, Diagnostic, and Reference Depth
Mechanical sections move from external inspection and baseline tests into teardown, measurement, reconditioning, assembly, and final engine testing. Depending on the family, the manuals cover cylinder-head flatness, cylinder resizing and honing, piston-to-bore measurement, ring and connecting-rod inspection, valve-guide and seat replacement, crankshaft and bearing service, camshaft and ACR work, balance gears, governor components, oil pumps, seals, and timing alignment. The Aegis manuals add water-pump, thermostat, radiator, fan-drive, reservoir, hose, coolant-leak, and lubrication-system procedures.
Fuel-system depth ranges from carburetor adjustment and overhaul to throttle/choke shaft bushing repair, fuel-pump diagnosis, governor setup, high-altitude jetting, LPG regulator testing, and EFI fault isolation. Special-tool references include Service Tool Kit 3211-A, Flywheel Puller Kit 3226, valve-seat and valve-guide tooling, seal and bearing installers, and engine-analysis instruments. Later Command manuals identify KO3219 leakdown, KO3220 oil-pressure, KO3221 rectifier-regulator, and KO3222 Smart Spark/SAM test equipment.

Several repair cautions are tied to specific parts and build changes. TP-2379 warns that a mechanical fuel-pump lever installed below the camshaft can damage both the pump and the engine, and it distinguishes the gasket required when replacing an early metal-bodied pump with the later plastic version. It also cautions against forcing tapered carburetor needles or bending the hardened ACR tab.
These publications cover the engine itself. They do not replace the equipment manufacturer’s chassis, hydrostatic transmission, complete PTO, or application-specific wiring documentation. Engine-side safety interlocks and controls are discussed, but final machine wiring, installation, and governed-speed requirements may still depend on the equipment manual. Parts books are also required when selecting exact repair kits and replacement parts.
Before repair, follow the manual-specific isolation and PPE precautions for gasoline and LPG, batteries, hot or rotating components, pressurized liquid-cooling systems, and recoil starter springs under tension.
