Repair Cautions and Manual Scope

The manual specifies that a damaged TAMD63 cylinder head must be replaced rather than resurfaced, and that the upper block faces on TAMD63 and TAMD72 engines must not be planed because the resulting clearance changes can bring pistons, valves, and injector nozzles too close together. It also warns that turning the crankshaft or camshaft with the timing gears removed and the cylinder heads installed can cause piston-to-valve contact; incompatible nitrocarburized and quenched-and-tempered timing gears must not be run together.
