The manual warns against laying a removed engine on its primary side because the clutch-cable end fitting can be damaged. During primary-drive work, incorrect placement of the sprocket locking link can damage the shifter shaft or crankcase; the transmission mainshaft nut also uses left-hand threads, and incorrect spring-washer orientation can cause clutch or transmission failure. Powertrain gears, thrust washers, and bearings should not be stored in magnetic parts trays because magnetized components can retain metal debris and accelerate internal wear.
