Nissan Manual Features & Content Preview
- Vehicle coverage: 2008 Nissan Sentra B16 four-door sedans for the United States and Canada. Covers MR20DE Base/2.0, S, and SL models with the market-listed 6-speed manual or CVT, plus QR25DE SE-R CVT and SE-R Spec V 6-speed manual models.
- Factory publication: Nissan North America Publication No. SM8E-1B16U0, Edition and Revision July 2007. The set totals 3,251 pages in 41 PDF files, including the Quick Reference Index and 40 system sections.
- Engine repair: Separate MR20DE and QR25DE coverage for timing chains, camshafts, valve-clearance inspection, cylinder heads and blocks, piston/bearing selection, engine removal, cooling, lubrication, fuel, exhaust, emissions, and electronic throttle control.
- Transmission service: RE0F10A CVT operation, DTC and pressure-control diagnosis, road testing, shift-lock, cooler, TCM, seals, and transaxle removal; plus internal overhaul procedures for RS6F94R, RS6F52A, and RS6F52H 6-speed manual transaxles.
- Chassis, body, and safety systems: Brake hydraulics, ABS/EBD, EPS, suspension, axles, TPMS, SRS/occupant classification, doors and locks, Intelligent Key, NATS, glass, sunroof, body alignment, high-strength-steel repair, and collision inspection.
- Diagnostic documentation: System wiring diagrams, CAN signal charts, connector layouts, terminal reference values, power/ground routing, CONSULT-III functions, symptom charts, special-tool references, torque tables, pressure checks, wear limits, capacities, and adjustment data.
Powertrain Repair and Diagnostic Depth
The engine chapters are organized separately for the MR20DE and QR25DE. They cover intake and exhaust components, fuel injectors and rails, rocker covers, timing-chain work, camshafts, oil seals, cylinder-head removal and disassembly, engine assembly removal, cylinder-block service, and factory piston and bearing selection. The 1,060-page engine-control section adds MFI and ignition system descriptions, ASCD, CAN communication, NATS, EVAP/ORVR, idle and throttle learning, fuel-pressure testing, extensive DTC confirmation routines, wiring checks, component tests, and post-repair learning procedures.
Manual-transaxle repair is divided by unit: RS6F94R for MR20DE applications and RS6F52A/RS6F52H for QR25DE applications. Coverage includes cross-sectional views, control linkage, input and main shafts, reverse gearsets, synchronizers, final drive, end play, baulk-ring clearances, and selective snap-ring, thrust-washer, and shim data. The RE0F10A CVT material covers hydraulic and electronic control, line and secondary pressure, sensors, solenoids, step motor, belt-damage diagnosis, road tests, TCM service, shift adjustment, cooler service, and transaxle removal. Its listed repair scope does not extend to a complete internal belt-and-pulley overhaul.
Electrical, Audio, Body Control, and CAN Systems
Base, Mid, and Premium are Nissan audio-system designations, not vehicle trim names. The AV section separates those configurations and documents the audio unit, premium amplifier, satellite-radio tuner, speakers and tweeters, steering-wheel controls, antenna, Bluetooth control unit, microphone/voice operation, and integrated display. Although Nissan titles the section “Audio, Visual, Navigation & Telephone System,” this edition does not list a standalone navigation-system repair chapter.
The BCM, body-lock, glass, power-distribution, driver-information, lighting, wiper, starting/charging, and LAN sections trace BCM and IPDM E/R operation, combination-switch inputs, power-window and automatic-close functions, remote keyless entry, Intelligent Key, electric steering lock, NATS, theft warning, lamps, warning chimes, and CAN branches. Representative references include Wiring Diagram - AUDIO -, Wiring Diagram - I/KEY -, Wiring Diagram - SRS -, Wiring Diagram - CVT - CAN, the ABS Hydraulic Circuit Diagram, and CAN Communication Signal Charts. The short ACC section handles pedal assembly service; APP-sensor diagnosis and throttle-learning procedures are located in the engine-control chapters.
Chassis, Climate Control, Restraints, and Body Repair
Brake coverage includes pedal adjustment, fluid replacement and bleeding, hydraulic circuits, master cylinder and booster service, calipers, rear drum components, and brake burnishing. ABS/EBD material adds active wheel-sensor testing, actuator and solenoid checks, CAN inspection, and symptom diagnosis. Steering, suspension, axle, and tire sections cover EPS DTCs, steering gear and column work, struts, control arms, stabilizer bars, rear beam and springs, hubs, drive shafts, wheel alignment, balancing, and TPMS ID registration.
The manual-air-conditioner section documents R-134a service equipment and procedures, oil-quantity control, leak detection, compressor and clutch work for both engines, refrigerant lines, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, heater core, door motors, blower circuits, and heating/cooling diagnosis. SRS coverage includes front and side airbags, curtains, pretensioners, spiral cable, diagnosis sensor unit, occupant classification, CONSULT-III and manual self-diagnosis, and collision checks. Body chapters add glass adjustment, sunroof diagnosis, trim removal, body dimensions, corrosion protection, sealing, foam repair, high-strength-steel precautions, and panel replacement operations.
Factory Warnings and Special Tools
The manual flags repair traps that generic instructions often miss. After manual-transaxle removal, Nissan specifies replacement of the concentric slave cylinder because contamination can damage its seal and cause clutch-fluid leakage. Intelligent Key/NATS models also require the factory steering-lock and post-repair self-diagnosis procedures when battery power is interrupted.
Special-tool tables retain Nissan/Kent-Moore identifiers, including KV10112100 (BT-8653-A) for angular tightening, KV991J0080 (J-45741) for ABS active wheel-sensor testing, and J-39570 Chassis Ear for noise tracing. Electrical, SRS, brake, fuel, and refrigerant repairs should follow the isolation, recovery, and test methods in the applicable factory section; the SRS material specifically restricts electrical probing of restraint circuits.
