1950–1958 International Farmall M, MD & 6 Series Tractor Service Manual (P/N GSS-5033)

This International Harvester GSS-5033 Service Manual covers Farmall M, MD, and 6 Series tractors and power units, including T-6/TD-6 crawlers, O-6/OS-6/ODS-6 orchard and grove tractors, and U-6/UD-6 power units.

More than 90 illustrations include engine cross sections, exploded oil-pump views, and lubrication schematics showing the crawler auxiliary-pump arrangements.

The bearing-installation notes explain how dirt trapped behind a bearing shell can reduce local clearance, create hot spots, and cause bearing failure.

For the U-6 and UD-6, standard net power curves and part-throttle fuel-consumption charts document power-unit performance.

E-12 Carburetion and Diesel Starting

The Model E-12 jet-identification table separates wheel-tractor carburetors from fuel-pump-fed crawler and power-unit versions. An exploded view accompanies the inspection and rebuilding instructions.

Transmission, Clutches, and Crawler Final Drives

Bevel-gear setup combines shim adjustment, backlash measurement, and tooth-contact illustrations. These references help assess gear mesh before closing up the transmission.

The high-clearance Farmall MV/MDV chain final drives have separate service coverage. T-6 sprocket gearing changes at TBK-8541 for standard tread and TBK-8547 for wide tread; gears from the two tooth-pressure-angle designs cannot be mixed.

Engine-clutch adjustments distinguish spring-loaded and over-center designs. The crawler steering clutches are spring-loaded, with section views, disassembly and reassembly information in the final-drive charts, and compressor bolts 48389-D identified for the work. Complete engine- and steering-clutch servicing is referred to CHS-62, which is not included.

Chassis coverage extends to steering gear, track-frame pivot shafts, and equalizer springs. Attachment sections provide belt-pulley and PTO service information, while the reference tables list tire tread widths, gear speeds, and PTO speeds.

Water-Pump Service and Electrical Fault Checks

Water-pump repair covers the impeller, packing, bearings, and seals. The cooling-system schematic explains bypass circulation, and the radiator section distinguishes pressure and nonpressure systems.

The charging-circuit schematic and starter/lighting circuit support checks of the cutout relay, wiring connections, brushes, and Bendix starter drive. Complete H-4 magneto servicing is referred to CHS-27, which is not included.

Working on high-pressure fuel lines and heavy engine internals carries inherent physical risks. Follow appropriate shop safety practices and support heavy assemblies securely.

Examples of Valve, Oil-Pressure, and Nozzle Data

These engine and fuel-system values are a small sample of the manual's service specifications.

For carbureted and Diesel engines, intake and exhaust valve-lever clearance is 0.017 in. with the engine hot. The T-6 lubrication data specify 60–70 psi at 1,450 rpm.

The IH Diesel injection-nozzle opening-pressure specification is 700 psi, accompanied by nozzle inspection and leakage-test information.
