Konica Minolta Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Official Konica Minolta Business Technologies Field Service publication for magicolor 1680MF and magicolor 1690MF — a 382-page PDF issued as Ver. 1.0 in November 2008, with the main-body revision table recording error corrections through Ver. 1.02.
  • Covers major repair work through illustrated removal, disassembly, cleaning, and reinstallation procedures for the fuser unit, PH unit, transfer roller unit, PRCB, MFPB, DCPU, high-voltage unit, IR/scanner assemblies, motors, fans, solenoids, and media-feed components.
  • Separate Lower Feeder Unit and Duplex Option sections document option removal, drive boards, rollers, motors, solenoids, cleaning, sensor layouts, jam diagnosis, and option-specific fault isolation.
  • Documents engine and controller firmware upgrading, 1690MF Remote Setup Utility operations, service-mode adjustments, paper-feed and print-pattern tests, counter resets, BK CLEAR, factory test, SRAM/memory clear, and market-specific soft-switch settings.
  • Provides jam and trouble-code charts, power-supply checks, image-quality troubleshooting, fax and scan error tables, parts and connector layouts, a print-cycle timing chart, and four full-page overall wiring diagrams.

Maintenance and Technical Overview

The main-body section begins with system configuration and product specification tables, then moves into CRU maintenance. It explains life control for the toner cartridges, imaging cartridge, integrated waste-toner system, fuser unit, and transfer roller. The toner and imaging-cartridge sections give the factory removal and replacement procedures, while the fuser and transfer-roller sections identify the required maintenance-counter reset. Transfer-roller replacement is also tied to engine calibration. The service-material list identifies cleaning pad material No. 000V-18-1 and isopropyl alcohol material No. 000V-19-0.

Mechanical coverage goes well beyond consumables. The 33-item disassembly/assembly list follows the machine from covers, operation panel, and original glass through the print control board, MFP board, fax and USB boards, DC power supply, high-voltage unit, image-transfer components, scanner/IR assemblies, ADF, motors, fans, solenoids, rollers, and separation pads. More than 120 numbered service photos and line drawings show screw, connector, tab, spring, and harness locations for repair and reinstallation work.

Configuration differences are clearly marked. The magicolor 1680MF uses 64 MB standard controller memory and USB, while the magicolor 1690MF uses 128 MB, Ethernet, and host USB and adds the ADF-, fax-, network-, e-mail-, and LDAP-related service content. The specification pages cover both 120 V and 220–240 V versions. The 1690MF-only Remote Setup Utility section covers phone-line or local USB connection, dial-setting file handling, firmware upload, memory and SRAM clearing, function settings, and its own error-message list. The optional Lower Feeder Unit is identified as a 500-sheet cassette; the Duplex Option is a switchback/circulating unit mounted through a separate attachment.

Adjustment and Diagnostic Coverage

Printer Mode covers toner positioning, cartridge ejection, and printer-head-window cleaning. Utility Mode and Service Mode then go into CIS main/sub zoom and registration, ADF zoom and registration, top and left image-position adjustment, transfer power, image-adjustment parameters, temperature settings, supply-replacement counters, and BK CLEAR. Built-in functions include Tray 1/Tray 2 paper-feed tests, two print test patterns, ADF feed testing, Copy ADF Glass, fax-resolution copy testing, and scan testing. For the 1690MF fax system, the manual also provides 64 soft-switch definitions with market-specific defaults, G3 ECM and line-control information, a reference-code table, and T.30 protocol-monitor analysis.

Troubleshooting is divided by symptom and subsystem. Jam sections map the Tray 1, second-transfer, fusing, exit, ADF transport, Lower Feeder, and Duplex paper paths to their sensors and actuators. Malfunction coverage includes transport and developing motors, fan motors, transfer-belt and solenoid faults, polygon/laser problems, fuser and thermistor failures, waste-toner sensing, board and ROM errors, scanner-home and IR-lamp faults, plus Duplex cooling-fan code 004A. The image-quality chapter covers lines and bands, density variation, gradation and color faults, spots, blur, blank or black output, registration, poor fusing/offset, back marking, and pitch-related defects. Diagnostic tables identify the relevant electrical parts and connector or control-signal locations.

The appendix supplies main-body, ADF, Lower Feeder, Duplex, and Duplex Attachment parts-layout drawings; a connector-layout drawing; the print-cycle timing chart; and overall wiring diagrams for the magicolor 1680MF/1690MF main body and each option assembly.

Repair Notes and Scope

The board-replacement notes define several machine-specific repair traps. PRCB replacement requires transfer of parameter chip IC9 from the old board and a BK CLEAR afterward. On the magicolor 1690MF, the MFPB and FAXB are treated as a matched replacement pair, and board replacement clears CIS/ADF adjustment values that must be restored. The high-voltage unit has to seat under its locating tab without deforming or loosening the terminal; the PH unit is replaced as an assembly and is not to be opened or adjusted in the field.

Disconnect the main body and installed options from AC power before service. The fuser remains hot after shutdown, and the laser and high-voltage areas require the specific precautions stated in the manual.

This PDF is the Field Service volume. It does not include the separate Theory of Operation or Parts Guide publications.
