Axle Variants, Steering, and Brakes

David Brown and Carraro AE1, AE2, AE3, and Type 709/19 axle procedures distinguish bearing-preload, pinion-protrusion, and differential adjustments. The component-specific P.I.N. breaks help match the installed configuration to the appropriate service information.

Selectamatic troubleshooting separates failure to lift, hold a load, lower, or maintain depth control. Hydraulic schematics distinguish rear-mounted pumps, single front-mounted pumps, and tandem front-mounted pumps, allowing mechanics to follow the corresponding oil-routing arrangement.

Pump, remote-valve, combining-valve, and rockshaft sections extend the coverage beyond basic pressure checks. Draft-sensing adjustments include the Model 1594 lower-link sensing arrangement.

Electrical testing covers alternator output, regulator bypass, windings, and diodes, supported by test-connection drawings. Starter and accessory sections address solenoids, warning lights, wipers, blower motors, and the air-conditioning compressor clutch circuit.

Working with heavy tractor drivetrains and high-pressure hydraulics involves significant physical risks. Always verify shop safety protocols, relieve system pressure, and use properly rated support stands before beginning any teardown.

Cylinder-Head and Injector Specification Examples

For the 1594 and 1690, cylinder-head installation specifies tightening in stages to a final 135 N·m (100 ft-lb), alongside a dedicated tightening-sequence drawing and washer-orientation details.

Injector testing distinguishes opening pressures of 18,750 kPa (2,720 psi) for new injectors and 17,650 kPa (2,560 psi) for used injectors. An overhauled injector fitted with a new pressure spring uses the new-injector specification.
