Allis Chalmers Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Covers Allis-Chalmers 7010, 7020, 7030, 7040, 7045, 7050, 7060, and 7080 tractors in a 78-page PDF, with model-indexed condensed service data and paragraph-numbered shop procedures.
  • Documents six-cylinder wet-sleeve diesel engine repair, including engine removal, cylinder-head and valve work, timing gears, camshaft, crankshaft, pistons, sleeves, bearings, lubrication components, Roosa-Master fuel injection, turbochargers, cooling, and applicable intercooler service.
  • Details torque-limiter and Power-Director diagnosis, standard and power-shift transmission repair, range-transmission removal, clutch-pack testing, valve-body service, differential setup, planetary final-drive overhaul, hydraulic brakes, and PTO work.
  • Includes front-axle service, hydrostatic power-steering troubleshooting and bleeding, hydraulic pressure and flow testing, Traction Booster and hitch adjustments, pump overhaul, remote-valve repair, and rockshaft/lift-cylinder work.
  • Provides component-level electrical testing for Delco-Remy and optional Niehoff charging systems, together with starting-motor specifications and cab, platform-frame, control-module, and protective-frame removal procedures.
  • Uses photographs, section views, hydraulic schematics, test-port maps, and exploded assemblies through Fig. 174, with serial-break notes and special-tool references tied to the affected repair procedures.

Engine Builds, Fuel Injection, and System Variants

The condensed service tables list the 649T for 7010, 649I for 7020, 3500 Mark II for 7030/7040, 670T for 7045, 3700 for 7050/7060, and 3750 Mark II for 7080. Internal engine coverage reaches from cylinder-head disassembly through the timing train, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, wet sleeves, bearings, seals, flywheel, oil pump, relief valves, and oil cooler. The tables supply torque data, capacities, clearances, inspection limits, and adjustments in U.S. Customary and Metric units.

Fuel-system material covers bleeding, filter service, locating a faulty nozzle, nozzle opening and seat-leakage tests, spray-pattern inspection, injector overhaul, Roosa-Master pump timing and removal, and engine-speed adjustment. The 7020 has a separate injector-sleeve procedure using ACTP 2057–2060 tools. AiResearch and Rajay turbochargers are treated separately, and intercooler removal and inspection are covered for the 7045, 7050, 7060, and 7080.

The 7010, 7020, 7030, and 7040 use the two-pinion differential procedure; the 7045, 7050, 7060, and 7080 use the four-pinion unit. PTO coverage distinguishes dual 540/1000-rpm and 1000-rpm output-shaft assemblies. Hydraulic chapters separate the variable-displacement piston pump from the gear, gerotor, and scavenger pumps, including early- and late-style piston-pump construction, control-valve service, remote-valve detent and self-cancel repair, and PTO clutch-valve work.

Power-Director, Transmission, and Serial-Break Coverage

Power-Director procedures address cable- and rod-type clutch adjustment, gerotor-pump flow, clutch leakage, regulating and relief circuits, high/low clutch pressure, crossover and inching operation, the transmission brake, control and shift valves, and clutch overhaul. The standard-transmission chapter distinguishes 16-speed layouts and mainshaft gears with or without bushings.

Power-shift testing identifies the A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 clutch circuits at dedicated test ports. The repair sections then cover shift and inching adjustments, modulating, regulating, and clutch valves, complete unit removal, individual clutch packs, and the rear planetary system. Special-tool references include ACTP 3052–3055 for clutch-hub, planet-pin, plate-stack, and lifting work; a fabricated hollow-shaft removal setup for the range transmission; and ACTP 3003 plus ACTP 3014-2/-3 supports for final-drive handling.

The opening page locates both serial-number markings before selecting serial-specific parts. The second-gear splined-collar update begins at 7040 S/N 2048, 7060 S/N 1963, and 7080 S/N 1139. New-design reverse collars apply to all 7040, 7060, and 7080 tractors, the 7030 after S/N 3650, and the 7050 after S/N 2585. A corrected power-shift rear-support gear arrangement begins at 7020 S/N 2469, 7045 S/N 1974, and 7060 S/N 6577. Early and late connecting rods, timing idler gears, Rajay center housings, and piston pumps are also identified separately.

Test Views, Repair Cautions, and Scope Limits

Useful visual references include the hydraulic power-steering schematic in Fig. 3, timing-gear alignment in Fig. 19, Power-Director pressure-gauge installation in Fig. 83, power-shift clutch test-port layouts in Figs. 101–103, PTO pressure and flow-test hookups in Figs. 151–153, and piston-pump exploded and tool views in Figs. 163–163B.

Early and late Rajay turbocharger center housings place the O-ring groove in different locations and must not be mixed. Pulling the crankshaft pulley by its outer rim can damage the vibration damper, while prolonged torque-limiter slipping can quickly ruin the driven disc and related parts.

Several procedures require splitting the tractor, handling the engine/front support or cab with a hoist, supporting final-drive housings, and connecting gauges to hydraulic circuits. Use the blocking, stands, lifting equipment, and test connections specified for the job. Electrical coverage is limited to charging-system and starting-motor service; this repair manual does not contain complete tractor wiring diagrams and does not replace an operator's manual or illustrated parts catalog.
