It covers engine removal and reinstallation, cylinder-head inspection, nozzle-sleeve replacement, valve-clearance adjustment, valve seats, guides and springs, rocker arms, timing-cover and gear work, camshaft bushings, rod-and-piston assemblies, sleeves, crankshaft and main bearings, oil seals, flywheel, oil pump and relief valves, oil cooler, radiator, thermostats, and water pump.

Fuel coverage provides filter bleeding, injection-pump timing and removal/reinstallation, plus nozzle fault isolation, pressure and spray testing, disassembly, inspection, and reassembly. Internal injection-pump overhaul is not part of this publication; it identifies the pump families and gives the tractor-side timing and installation work. Turbocharger removal and overhaul are covered for all four models, with a separate intercooler section for the 8050 and 8070.

Drivetrain, Chassis, and Hydraulic Depth

The transmission material is one of the strongest parts of the book. Power Director coverage runs from clutch adjustment and troubleshooting through pump-flow and regulator, clutch, and lube-pressure checks, control-valve teardown, clutch removal, and internal overhaul. The Power Shift section adds inching-pedal and linkage adjustment, a stall test, multi-port pressure diagnosis, a gear-and-clutch application chart, valve-body service, unit removal, and clutch-pack and planetary overhaul. A model-specific assembly chart separates the 8010 clutch configuration from the 8030/8050/8070 build and identifies check-ball, separator-plate, friction-plate, and tooth-pattern differences.

Axle repair includes two-wheel-drive wheel bearings and spindles, front-wheel-drive hub and planetary units, bevel gears, axle shafts, the optional spring-loaded no-spin differential, and the electrically controlled front-drive clutch. Steering chapters provide bleeding, flow and pressure testing, cylinder leakage checks, control-valve overhaul, and steering-column service. The hydraulic section identifies the axial-piston, gear, and gerotor pumps, explains their separate circuits, and covers flow tests, pump removal and overhaul, shim-adjusted and late-production screw-adjusted compensators, hitch controls, remote valves, lift arms, and the lift cylinder. Strong examples are the front-drive differential and pinion-shaft exploded view, power-steering control-valve exploded view, engine timing and pump-index views, Power Director valve assembly, Power Shift clutch assembly chart, and the two piston-pump compensator layouts.

The condensed service data and repair paragraphs supply capacities, torque sequences, clearances, wear limits, pressure and flow tests, electrical test specifications, and model-specific clutch data in U.S. customary and metric units. Electrical coverage centers on analog gauges and warning lights, safety-start switches, alternator/regulator diagnosis and overhaul, and starting-motor test specifications rather than a tractor-wide wiring schematic.

The no-spin front differential is spring-loaded and must be restrained before the case halves are opened; uncontrolled spring load can damage parts. Power Director clutch end clearance must be maintained because an overly tight pack can score the clutch hubs. In the Power Shift output shaft, the bearing and sleeve are installed separately—the manual warns that pressing them together damages the bearing.

For tractor splits, axle or cab removal, and hydraulic testing, use rated blocking and lifting equipment, disconnect battery grounds, and relieve system pressure before lines or valves are opened.
