Chevrolet S10 & S10 Blazer / GMC S15 & S15 Jimmy Repair Manual Set, 1982–1993

The two repair volumes provide the broader maintenance and repair reference, while the separate articles go deeper into T5 overhaul, axle setup, LN8 engine repair and electrical fault tracing. This is a mixed aftermarket reference set, not a single GM factory shop manual.

Coverage varies by publication. The rear-suspension article includes 1991–1994 Sonoma and Oldsmobile Bravada applications; those references do not establish complete repair coverage for those vehicles. The Holley, Rochester 4GC and small-block articles are independent supplements rather than S-series repair chapters.

PDF Search, Bookmarks and Diagram Detail

Search and navigation: Both main volumes have searchable OCR text, with recognition errors in places. Each has only two generically labeled bookmarks; the other PDFs have none. Supplemental text is searchable, but many diagram labels are not. Small wiring labels require zooming, particularly in the S-series repair volume.

The ZIP download contains 36 printable PDFs totaling 1,138 pages. This total includes the supplemental articles, 16 pages of tune-up and body-repair inserts within the Chilton volume, and four repeated pages across the two main volumes.

Engine, Drivetrain and Electrical Repair Coverage

These selected coverage highlights are not a complete contents list. Additional topics include body-panel and window-regulator service, plus generic computer relearn guidance after battery disconnection.

• Engine repair: Engine removal, cylinder-head service, timing-component replacement, internal inspection and general overhaul procedures for the covered gasoline engines, plus Chilton diesel-engine material.

• Fuel and engine controls: Carburetor service, TBI repair, CPI-system checks, diesel fuel-system work, emissions diagnosis and engine-control trouble-code information.

• Transmission and transfer case: Clutch service, transmission removal, T5 internal overhaul, transfer-case removal and illustrated transfer-case disassembly, inspection and reassembly.

• Axles and differentials: Shaft, bearing and seal replacement; CV-joint service; vacuum-actuator testing; differential overhaul; pinion-depth, preload, backlash and tooth-contact checks.

The maintenance material supports owners doing their own servicing; internal transmission and differential work is suited to experienced repairers with precision measuring tools and the specified workshop equipment.

Engine Repair and Fuel-System Detail

Gasoline and diesel coverage: The S-series volume treats the 1.9L, 2.0L and 2.5L four-cylinder engines, plus the 2.8L and 4.3L V6 families. Chilton adds 2.2L diesel procedures, including timing-belt and fuel-system work.

The separate LN8 article details intake and exhaust manifolds, cylinder-head service, front-cover and crankshaft seals, pushrod side cover, rocker arms, hydraulic lifters, camshaft and timing gear, water pump, lubrication and oil-pump service. The general-overhaul article adds cleaning and crack detection, valve-guide and seat work, piston and bearing inspection, pre-oiling, startup and final adjustments.

Tool references include J-34995 for front-cover/seal centering and J-34144-A valve-cover removers. The LN8 instructions warn that prying on the valve cover damages its sealing surface; they also distinguish pushrod guides that must return to their original positions.

T5 Overhaul, Transfer Cases and Axle Setup

The T5 article provides step-by-step disassembly and reassembly procedures, output-shaft and synchronizer service, bearing checks, exploded views and GM-specific torque tables. Its application table distinguishes MB1 and MW1 versions. Incorrect countershaft support during bearing installation can permanently damage the transmission case.

Automatic-transmission coverage includes general diagnosis, maintenance, linkage adjustment and removal/installation rather than an internal automatic-transmission rebuild. Transfer-case material includes NP231 removal and illustrated NP207 disassembly.

Front-axle instructions distinguish the vacuum actuator, shift cable, right axle tube and inner shaft. Pinion-depth and side-bearing setup identify tools J-33838 and J-33792. Separate suspension files distinguish 2WD coil springs from 4WD torsion bars, with rear leaf-spring, shackle and ride-height material.

Wiring and Fault Tracing

Representative drawings include the 1986 Engine Compartment & Headlights diagram, 1990 Charging Circuit, dashboard-harness/instrument-cluster diagram, four-cylinder TBI engine harness, S/T Windshield Wiper/Delay Motor Schematic and S/T instrument-cluster exploded view.

Cruise-control charts separate servo, release-switch, control-switch and speed-sensor checks. Instrument-panel material covers warning lamps, gauges, sender testing, printed-circuit service, DRAC operation and speedometer calibration. These test charts and component-location views let a repairer follow a symptom into the relevant circuit and component checks.

The main S-series volume describes its wiring diagrams as typical, commonly needed circuits. The separate year-specific sheets add detail, but the set is not a complete OEM electrical library for every covered year.

The basic-troubleshooting file provides general guidance rather than model-specific diagnosis. The manual A/C-heater diagnostic article is labeled 1988–1989.

This documentation is strictly for reference. Use lifting and support equipment, isolate battery power before electrical work, and leave refrigerant, brake, or drivetrain repairs to a qualified technician when the required training or service tools are not available.

Selected LN8 and T5 End-Play Specifications

The LN8 engine tables list crankshaft end play of 0.0035–0.0085 inch and camshaft end play of 0.002–0.005 inch, alongside the associated bearing and camshaft inspection data.

The T5 overhaul article specifies countershaft end play of 0.001–0.005 inch during reassembly. These are component-specific inspection and setup examples; the related procedures and application information remain necessary.
