DESCRIPTION
- The 2.8L (2776 cc) four-cylinder "common rail" direct injection engine
STANDARD PROCEDURE
- ENGINE GASKET SURFACE PREPARATION
- Metal scraper
- Abrasive pad or plastic scraper
- Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gaskets
COMPRESSION TEST
-
- Warm up the engine to operating temperature (approximately 80°C).
-
- Stop the engine.
-
- Disconnect the injector fuel return lines from the fuel filter.
-
- Disconnect the electrical connector to the main fuel injection wire loom.
-
- Disconnect the electrical connectors to the injectors.
-
- Remove the glow plugs.
-
- Install the compression gauge adapter M0010 into the glow plug hole of the cylinder to be tested.
-
- Crank the engine at least four revolutions to remove combustion mixture in the cylinders.
-
- Install the compression gauge in the adapter.
-
- Crank the engine for at least four revolutions to measure compression pressure.
-
- Repeat steps for all cylinders.
-
- Remove the adapter and compression gauge.
-
- Install the glow plugs.
-
- Install the electrical connectors to the injectors.
-
- Install the fuel injector lines.
-
- Install the engine cover.
REMOVAL
-
- Remove the intake air box.
-
- Disconnect the battery cables.
-
- Remove the battery tray.
-
- Remove the coolant recovery container.
-
- Remove the following components:
- Brake master cylinder
- Battery
- Battery shield
- Coolant recovery container retaining clip
- Engine cover
- Coolant recovery container
- Remove the following components:
-
- Drain the coolant.
-
- Remove the coolant recovery bottle bracket.
-
- Remove the fasteners and the coolant overflow bottle bracket.
