The engine chapter goes well beyond tune-ups. It identifies which assemblies can be serviced with the engine in the frame, then documents removal, disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of the air-cooled V-twin and its constant-mesh transmission. Inspection work covers rocker arms, camshaft wear and journal clearance, cam-chain components, valve guides and seats, cylinder and piston wear, piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft runout, clutch plates, shift forks, gears, crankcase bearings, and oil passages. Reassembly instructions distinguish the front and rear cylinders, camshafts, and timing positions.

The manual flags several easy ways to damage parts during a rebuild. Turning the crankshaft without keeping the cam drive chain clear can trap the chain between the crankcase and its drive sprocket. The brake chapters also specify glycol-based DOT 4 fluid and warn that mixing silicone- or petroleum-based fluid can seriously damage the system.

Critical PDF Scope Limitation

The model-correct VL125 material ends at PDF page 207, manual page 6-31. PDF pages 208-242 identify themselves as VL800K1 material and introduce shaft-drive, liquid-cooling, wiring, and specification data that do not apply to the air-cooled, chain-drive VL125. Those appended pages are not safe reference material for VL125 repair.
