The outboard service manuals cover the applicable engines and propeller-drive assemblies. The Jet Drive publications add pump installation, operation, maintenance, and overhaul information and are intended for use with the matching engine owner's and service manuals.
Jet-drive coverage is specific to the jet system. It does not provide complete engine-overhaul coverage for every engine listed in the Jet Drive publications; the matching base-engine manuals for jet-only applications are required separately.
Powerhead, Gearcase and Jet Drive Service

Powerhead repair: Removal, disassembly, internal inspection, and assembly, with separate two-stroke procedures and F75C/F90C camshaft, valve, and timing-belt service.

Fuel and lubrication: Carburetor overhaul, linkage adjustment, F75C/F90C vacuum synchronization, fuel-pump inspection, and two-stroke oil-injection pump and warning-system checks.

Lower unit: Gearcase disassembly, water-pump service, shaft and clutch inspection, shim selection, backlash measurement, and lower-unit leakage checks.

Power trim and tilt: Hydraulic-unit teardown, rod and seal inspection, fluid filling, air bleeding, motor testing, and hydraulic pressure tests where specified.

Electrical diagnosis: Model-specific wiring diagrams, ignition and charging tests, starter-motor repair, sensor checks, and symptom-based trouble-analysis charts.

Jet Drive service: Impeller and liner work, bearing-housing overhaul, reverse-gate adjustment, mounting guidance, assembly drawings, parts lists, and tiller-control templates.
The service manuals were written primarily for Yamaha dealers and trained mechanics with working knowledge of mechanical and electrical service procedures.
Powerhead Repair and Fuel-System Work
The two-stroke power-unit chapters cover cylinder and piston inspection, crankshaft checks, reed valves, thermostats, and oil-injection pump drive gears. Assembly sections address bearings, seals, piston rings, and connecting-rod components, with component-specific tightening data.
The F75C/F90C volume adds valve-pad selection, camshaft inspection, valve-guide replacement, valve-seat work, and crankshaft bearing selection. Its Plastigauge procedures and bearing tables support decisions about internal clearances during an overhaul. Incorrect bearing placement can produce misleading clearance measurements and lead to engine damage.
Carburetor synchronization: The F75C/F90C procedure uses a vacuum gauge set, identified as YU-08030/90890-03159, to compare the carburetors. The two-stroke manuals separately document carburetor linkage, ignition pickup timing, and oil-pump linkage adjustments.
Gearcase, PTT and Electrical Diagnosis
Shim selection: The lower-unit chapters distinguish USA/Canada procedures from worldwide procedures and explain the applicable case markings and measuring tools. This helps identify the correct shimming method before selecting replacement shims; the measurements are followed by backlash checks.
Hydraulic service: PTT coverage extends to the pump housing, tilt components, electric motor, and bleeding procedures. Observe the manual's precautions for supported outboards, stored hydraulic pressure, and electrical testing.
Fault tracing: Trouble-analysis charts connect symptoms such as rough idle, overheating, poor charging, and a non-operating tilt motor with components and reference chapters. Electrical sections include coil resistance or peak-voltage tests, relay checks, and model-specific warning circuits.

Jet Drive Operation and Overhaul
The Jet Drive books cover mounting height, intake blockage, bearing lubrication, impeller clearance, neutral adjustment, and pump overhaul. Their parts lists and assembly drawings distinguish the smaller jet units from the larger bearing-housing arrangements.
The four-stroke editions address different applications: the September 2002 volume includes F60 and F90 arrangements, while the November 2001 volume includes F50 and F80 arrangements. Both also cover F40 and F115 jet systems.
The impeller-removal discussion explains how a wedged drive key can prevent removal. Bearing-housing overhaul also carries a specific warning that excessive heating can damage the seals; these overhaul procedures are recommended for authorized Yamaha outboard dealers.
Examples of Engine Inspection and Timing Data
For the 50G/60F/70B/75C/80A/90A manual, the cylinder-head warpage limit is 0.1 mm. Its piston-to-cylinder clearance specification is 0.050–0.055 mm for the 50–70 hp models, providing a model-specific reference for the powerhead inspection procedures.
The same manual lists full-advance ignition timing of 22° ± 1° BTDC for the 90A models. These values belong to the identified two-stroke publication and should not be applied to the separate four-stroke engines.
PDF Search, Bookmarks and Included Pages
Finding procedures and reading diagrams: Text search is available in parts of the PDF, but many pages do not have searchable text. Embedded bookmarks provide access to the publications and major chapters; the Jet Drive books have fewer internal bookmark targets. Small wiring labels require zooming in the checked diagrams.
